I would try knocking at different times to get someone's attention, but proceed with caution. If you talk to someone, don't be rude. Ask nicely...that way...you can say that tried being nice prior to calling the police. Oh, and document everything. The dates and times you knocked, left the note, talked to someone, what you said, what they said and dates and time you called the police. Approach it as if you are a lawyer, because you are more likely to win favor or possibly a court case if you show the judge that you made decent attempts to ask nicely and present it in an organize manner.

I would call the police, there are I'm sure noise curfews at night , probably around 10PM. So at midnight they are over that time. You are entitled to a good nights sleep. Let the cops handle it.
You can also ask the other neighbors, how long this has been going on, and what if anything have they done, or are doing about it. And how do they feel about it. If you all come together and complain it would hold more weight. You all live in the neighborhood together and should respect each others
privacy, one would hope.

Does your community have a nosie ordinance? Ours does and after ten p.m. I have told a young neighbor lady go ahead continue making all the racket you want I will dial and complain...
my other neighbors that were outdoors applauded me too.
So we have a system we all call and are not worried about this cause it's rude.
I will tolerate noise during the day ok but after ten at night it best be getting quiet :)
The police department will grow weary of visiting and will take care of it.
You deserve peace and quiet too..
Just cause your new doesn't mean you should be treated rudely jmo.
Good Luck.
Speak with your other neighbors too it's ok to do that.
You did your best with the note and knock at the door now U just have to call and see what the noise ordinance is and keep at it....

This is a sticky situation. I can understand your not wanting to cause problems because you are a new neighbor. But they should respect you as well. Obviously, these people have no concept of manners because they would have stopped when you left the polite note. Soooo, on that note, I would try talking to them face to face. This is after you do what one person has already said and get the scoop on the noisemakers from the other neighbors. Once you find out they are not A) murderers or B) psycho freaks, you can then try to talk to them. IF they are psycho freaks, then I would call the police. If all else fails, play "The Sound of Music" soundtrack as loud as possible and sing along. Put on full-fledged performances on your lawn. They may be trying to get rid of you; you need to get rid of them first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are usually rules about disturbing the peace and how early and late that runs. Find what these rules are for your neighborhood (from the police) and tell the neighbors. If they then break the curfews by all means call the police. They are then breaking the law. And if they won't follow the law when you ask nicely, they should be surprised at you calling the police. After all, you have a right to your sleep.

Withholding the rent can get you evicted and ruin your credit rating, making it hard for you to find another place to live. A landlord loses money every month the apartment is not rented so don't blame her for renting the apartment to you. She's in the business to rent property not in the business to make sure you are 100% comfortable. My neighbors make noise and it's something you have to deal with when you live in an apartment. Have you tried talking to the neighbor directly? Maybe try tape recording the noise coming from her place and playing it for her. Most people probably don't realize how loud they are.

Don't call the police just yet. You've only made on attempt at speaking to them--not even face to face--and the police will just make matters worse. They may be quieter, but in exchange you'll be dealing with bitter neighbors who's first impression of you will be that you're a crybaby.
Try and knock again, and worst case, go to wherever it is they're practicing. Ask them IN PERSON and be as polite as your letter was. Let them know that you just expect a little bit of privacy, but don't mind their occassional jamming-out.
If you're treated rudely, or they just blatantly ignore your requests, then you can escalate it to a level that would get the police in there, but until then, don't be THAT GUY.

Hell yea, I would have called the police on the first night. That is so rude when people do that. When you make your call just say that you would like to remain annonomous. They wont tell them it was you.. but they may figure that out now that theyve gotten the note.. but who cares what they think if theyre not worried about you or your family!!
Call the police!!

I had the similar problem. You need to just call the police. Don't knock on their door, because it's most likely that they won't stop anyways, and if you do decide to call the police after that, they'll Know it was you.

If your town has a noise ordiance - and many do - if they violate it, call the police. If you can make friends with the other neighbors and all band together things have to change.
