Why is it that we are the 'odd' ones here, often giving lengthy and provocative answers?

I can't help myself laughing when I read some posts recently on a very simple and straightforward question but the LONGEST was from a Theravadin Buddhist, going from scratch to enlightenment.

Honestly, that was a GOOD post but I wonder if a non-Buddhist would ever comprehend what we're trying to explain to them?

I can't help but being labeled as a long winded person myself. Is it just 'us' or has it got to do with our commentary/Dharma books which influences our ways of intellect after years of nerdy readings?

LOLs...

Lol, beats me! I always feel like a few people understand me, but the majority of them are just thinking "What is he trying to say?"

Hello friend. I think Buddhists have all kinds of ways as do followers of Abraham, Satanists, Atheists and Agnostics. Don't lump ourselves together.

Since that is said, I too don't like lengthy replies. They are probably the least likely to be read. Best.

Just because you are a buddhist doesn't mean you are smart, trust me. People who aren't Buddhist are mentally capable of comprehending what is being said regardless of whether or not they agree with it. Just because most individuals who are not buddhist do not read the commentary/dharma books, it doesn't mean that a person can’t understand. Maybe You Need To Think Outside The Box

Hot air, long winded -that's me!

Hard to know what you can take for granted in an answer, this seems such a different mindset to me ..... but a good exercise in having beginners mind, and keeping it all simple. I shall strive to become Zen master of few words!

as for odd, well, this philosophy brings those quirks out, doesn't it...

I have studied Buddhism for long enough to go from long explanations to very short ones. Think about it.

Most religions preach certainty about god and sin. Buddhism is the realization that there is little we can be certain about most things are relative, and the pursuit of absolute certainty ultimately leads to unhappiness. This takes a long time to explain to people and unless they are willing to pursue it for themselves, they will never derive any benefit from it.

Uh..uh..uh..uh. I see humility flying out the window. Are you saying non-buddhists cannot comprehend your explanations? Please, don't be ridiculous. Climb down off your high horse. You're not that much smarter than most folks here.
