i have never heard a more true statement than the one you just made. Have you heard people say that you become depressed when you feel helpless and hopeless? Very true. If you do not believe in your ability to adapt to any situation that comes your way, you will be afraid all the time. If you do not believe in your ability to change outcomes for yourself, to control things that affect you or how things affect you, then you will be depressed. That is really why people get depressed. Self confident people almost never have long lasting depression.
self confidence is built first by recognizing what you do right and almost turning a blind eye to what you are not doing right. So if you gave a speech and you were shy and therefore not loud enough to be heard. At the end of the situation, you go back and tell yourself, "congratulations jane/john, despite the fact that you are a shy person, you walked all the way up to the stage, stood up and delivered a speech. You prepared ro it and you delivered. You had confidence in your ability to give a speech. You are a genius. Good job." After that you can say to yourself "next time i give a speech, i will try to be louder" or something like that. But the whole point being that by building up what you are doing right and therefore acknowledging your ability to do positive and courageous things, you make it possible and easier for you to try bolder things and even continue to build on your confidence with a progressively expanding database of things you can do.
I strongly believe and i am a living example that you can be the most talented person on earth but without self confidence, you will almost surely fail in that task that you are most talented in. Build your confidence every day by being positive about yourself

That is true to a point. I am succefull yet very unsure of myself. I used to use negative self-talk as a means to make sure i did well in school. I would tell myself I was stupid and belive these lies. Anyway long story short I got A's and B's but wasnt happy. You have to believe and in yourself!

isn't this weird .. you said "trust yourself" and there are people telling you to pray and trust in god at the same time ... isn't that contradictory .. why would you need A god if you trust yourself!

I believe in myself, and I guess that's the main reason why I am an atheist!
