If we are saved and following Christ's example, I think we should be using our online time to witness or get closer to God. We know that there are millions of people who will persecute us and laugh at our beliefs. I call all of my Christian brothers and sisters to stop all the debating. Let God work on your heart. We dont have to go online and defend our faith, our God will fight all of our battles. Get out of the house, off the internet and focus on your calling.

Maybe defending the faith IS our calling. Ever think of that? Debating IS witnessing, if done with the right spirit.

Hey, hold up there a minute. The followers of Jesus took the message of the gospel along dusty roads from town to town. Two thousand years later, we have the ability to share the gospel over all the planet, through this website.

No reason to ever "argue" anything. But there are many people on this site who ask good, sincere questions. And God's word tells me to "have for every man an answer for the hope that is within me". This is a wonderful place to talk about Jesus, in my opinion.

we can use any platform to spread the word...yes i do debate but its a healthy one always using the word of GOD..i have conformed a few with my stance and zeal when i talk about the Lord...yes the devil is a liar and will have you think that the only way to debate and spread the word is by going from door to door or standing outside but i beg to differ...i am loving and always end any type of debate or witnessing by showing love, humilty and encouragement...how isee it you can always turn a negative into a positive...so i say this to you my brother do not ever let the devil win... keep praising the LORD in any situation especially on the net.... he's a mighty GOD that can be preached about in all different ways...cause he lives in us...remember also that he uses us as he sees fit...i have non believers asking me about my GOD on this net....

example ...when my kids are sleep i can worship and debate and use this net for writing and sending letters of hope, and prayers to all that need...if Jesus was here right now he'd probable use the net too...he did walk as a human and thought like one but on a higher level than us...

as for defending our faith we have to make sure we're not stumbling others or getting so haughty that when we defend we sound worldly...we don't always have to have the last word...kill em with kindness and turn the cheek...if a debate is getting you riled up, maybe you just need to leave the debate and pray for that person...and move on...

lets not give up people use your support system when someone's negative attributes weigh you down...
God Bless and keep the faith....

I understand your point. However some of us are merely here to answer legitimate questions regarding our faith. I for one do not try to defend God, but to clear up qustions from legitimate seekers of the truth. I will ignore any purposeful attempts to bait and incite argument. I also ignore any question that is a blatant attack. Sometimes it is like finding a needle in a haystack. I have ministries in my church and workplace as well, but through this forum I have an opportunity to pray for people I don't even know and hopefully I can meet someone I helped in heaven.

I see a lot of 'christians' on this page 'defending' their faith quite vociferously. It reminds me of when I was in the throes of xtian fundamentalism. I had to speak very loudly in order to drown out the voice inside that said, 'Something isn't right here... this really doesn't make any sense... if a lot of people believe this does it make it true?'

What I see as 'witnessing' or 'defending the faith' reminds me of the Shakespeare line "... methinks he doth protest too much."

We should debate so that we can reveal the Truth and not let people continue in their ignorance. Look at Titus 1:9, one of my favorite verses in the Bible:

"He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it."

Note the "refute those who oppose it" part.

EDIT:
chippyminton: I did come up with a constructive response. you might want to read through the answers before you post...

Your god is a p*ssy. He isn't going to do anything. Even if he did I think I could take your god out. Anyway I don't know how they are people like you out there who just have a horribly closed mind and will not open it for anything. Just take a second and look there is no example set by god or Jesus. According to your bible your god does more Violante acts than all of human kind. Including being an accomplice in his own sons death.

You assume too much ... my on-line shinanagan's are my personal "Pennance" ... Yes, I took the "Prodigal Daughters" tour, and now I wanna align with God ... but see, it's been awhile since I asked the stupid question ... so there are tons who thought like me here ... so when I answer them ... I'm not really answering them, but rather, answering myself.

Should another grasp what I'm telling myself, then it's "God's Will" not mine ... but it does get me to open my mind, spirit, and a few books & web-sites.

Maybe because christians want so disparately to be right in spite of reason, evidence, and reality to the contrary? They want to feel justified in their beliefs because in their hearts they have doubt.

my bet is that nobody can come up with a constructive argument in response to Joe D. I personally love it when religious people try to sell religion to me, because i always like to question my atheism. nothing yet has convinced me to follow a religion, but i am not closed off to religious insightfulness. if anyone wants to do any selling of religion, please do, i enjoy arguing my case with people and questioning what i believe.
