TIA

Most vehicles Ford and other manufacturers are putting it on there to warn people to change the oil...

Most oil change places don't know, don't want to know, or just forget to turn off the reminder or reset it... Ford sets the oil change light for 6 months or 5,000 miles and apparently it came on too soon... (reset it as per owners manual as their are two different ways depending upon the gauges) and keep up with the maintainace by the book.

Change Engine Oil Soon

Historically an oil change has been recommended after 3000 miles. Last year I read at Consumer Reports 7000 miles would do the trick. You figure it out.

I personally grab the oil between my fingers and feel it's lubrication. It does tend to thin when it's hotter. I run older cars which do keep running.

If you have a 2006 model it is probably still under warranty and your best bet is to contact the dealer for his records. You do not want to void your warranty. Good luck.

I would check your oil level first, but yes, your indicator needs to be reset. The reason it came on so early is because of calibrations, or lack thereof, at the place where you got your oil change. They're supposed to reset the system to 0 miles, but many places skip over that step.

Read your owners manual. It will tell you how to reset the indicator. They don't reset themselves yet. It usually involves holding down the gas or clutch for a certain time. You may also want to check your oil, just to make sure the company you used filled it correctly.

They probably didn't reset the light when they changed your oil, most oil change place don't. It should tell you how to do it yourself in the owner's manual.

Try to reset it, it could be the indicator was not reset when you had the oil change or the indicator is faulty.
