"einen" freund. you have to stick the "en" at the end of "ein" in such a sentence, because it is the accousative case in this situation.
a few simple rules:
1. the subject "du" is nominative, and takes on the verb conjugation "hast."
2. the next noun is usually accousative, thus the "einen freund."

All I know is that I murder the German language all the time, lol, and I know that my German friends are VERY patient with me. I think that ein=one and einen=a (singular). In the context you are asking I would use "einen", but unlike Spanish, German is rarely used in the North American West. Therefore I don't get to use it person to person as much as I'd like. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it, pilgrim! :-)
