The word golf shirt might sound like something different to him. If your dog reacts by getting excited than it probably sounds like a word he know. Possibly, walk, lets play or something else your dog enjoys. Also, if you say golf shirt in a playful voice your dog thinks you mean something else. Dogs don't figure out what you are saying by the actual words, but by how the pitch of your voice is.

Dogs react to repeated words, the way they are said, and what happens right after that word is said.

Do you look at her or pay attention to her when you say the word?
Have you given her treats or something good while talking about or saying 'golf shirt'?
