Blue Ray is NOT Dvd. It is a new format similar to Dvd. The discs are the same size as a dvd. A Dvd player WILL NOT play Blue Ray discs, you need a Blue Ray player, some of which cost upwards of $1000.

Blue Ray holds 25 GB, over 5x the data on a dual-layer dvd.
Movies run in 1080p high definition for the clearest picture available.

Sony Playststion 3 uses Blue-Ray discs.

Heres the wikipedia article about blue ray:

Yeps, it's a new media format. It looks like a dvd, but you need a bly ray player, cause it uses a different laser than regular DVD´s. The picture quality is much better and it holds much more capacity. But to really exploits the benefits you will need a HD tv.

There is also the competitor 'HD DVD'. It´s also a new format, and people say it got better picture quality than Blu ray. It´s cheaper, but has less capacity. He also, for the best results you need a HD tv.

Sony Playstation 3 has a basic blu ray drive in it, so you can buy it "cheap" for 600 dollar. But just wait a year or two. It´s still not sure which will be the standard format: Blu ray or HD DVD. All bets go to HD DVD...but it´s safest just to wait.
