Love is probably the most overgeneralized, least understood word in the English language. Everyone defines it differently, and most will be quick to tell you what it is, even if they don't know a thing about you. I think there is no such thing as platonic love, because I love many people to varying degrees. The favorite people in my life I love, even if I don't have intimate contact with all of them. For example, I love you even though this question is our only common ground, simply because you are human, and asked a genuinely intelligent question. If we knew each other better, perhaps the love would grow stronger...even if we never met. Sounds pretty platonic, huh?

Platonic love is a feeling you have for a friend that is limited to a feeling for a sibling - no romantic or sensual emotions attached. Common is a brotherly or sisterly affection for an opposite sex who is close to you. Actually, some relationships that ended in happy marriages started with platonic affections which, later in their friendship, developed into something more meaningful and deeper. It is a kind of relationship that often lasts because couples don't need to adjust anymore, having had enough time to understand each other, have made allowances for their personality differences or shortcomings and are comfortable with each other.

Platonic love in its modern popular sense is a non-sexual affectionate relationship, especially in cases where one might easily assume otherwise. A simple example of platonic relationships is a deep, non-sexual (overtly romantic) friendship, not subject to gender pairings and not excluding close relatives.

I say platonic love is what you feel for a good friend. It could also be a signal that the guy doesn't feel for you what you feel for him.
Without more information, it's hard to tell what you are really trying to find out.

It means to leave out physical desire. a Platonic relationship is basically a friendship. I hope someone is not throwing this word out in false meaning. such as friends with benefits cas that would just be wrong.
