It will only be sin if you:
1. place it above your relationship with God
2. sing about/encourage unrighteous behavior.
Incidentally, how do you attend what you are? You are the church - the church is not the building. Just a thought. Don't GO to church, BE the church.

Depends on your priorities. If God is your focus who could reach millions through your R & B career, and I would be surprised if he didn't want R&B singers who serve him to use their gifts for the kingdom. But it's a difficult thing, there will be a lot of temptation and pressure to compromise. I'd find a church that can understand your dream and where the people would be willing to give you a lot of prayer support. I would also look for independent labels, maybe even christian R&B labels where the people aren't so out to use you.

It is such a fine line. You could sing Christian R&B. It is just a style right?
It is fine to sing R&B but it is very difficult to live in a climate and not be effected by that climate. In other words, the climate out there in secular music is sold out to and serving an evil system (for the most part). I think of Witney Houston...what an incredible singer...she started out singing in a church chior. Look at her now, broke, starving to death, doing drugs, she didn't influence the world, the world sucked her in and changed her.
But do not look at walking with God like and "either" "or". The Bible says, God says
Jeremiah 29:11-14
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the LORD
If you seek God, He will put dreams and ideas and plans in you that you cannot even imagine right now. He will open doors in your life that you cannot imagine.
Many people thing that if they turn to God they will have to "give up" so many things. It isn't like that. God will work things out .
When I truely gave my life to God, I was dating this guy who I thought I would marry. I knew that if I returned to going to church and serving God things would have to change with this guy. We did not have a godly relationship. I felt I would have to give him up. God wants you right where you are, with all your bagage. Eventually, that guy did fade out of my life. He was NOT God's best for me. God sent me a young man who is on the same page with me as far as faith goes and who love me and is committed to me. God's plan was way better than my plan.
Give Him a chance.

It would depend on the individual songs you sing. Any that are antithetical to Christian living (can't think of any R&B songs off the top of my head, but "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" would be a good example of a C&W song that is) should be dispensed with. Other than that, as long as your singing doesn't negatively affect your spiritual life (for example, it becomes more important to you than attending assembly), I don't see any problem.

There is a little thing called Gospel music it is a lot like R&B as a matter of fact R&B stems from Gospel. Gospel has many different forms but one such form is pretty much Christian R&B. As long as it glorifies God you dont need to worry.

Only if you subscribe to the belief that some chuckleheads have that only Christian music is worthy of any legitimacy, and that Jesus is the only thing you should ever sing about. Music is simply not meant to be that restrictive. If you enjoy it, there's no reason to think that singing about something non-Christian in lyrical content is somehow sinning. You might as well only wear Christian clothes, read Christian books, eat Christian food, and relieve yourself on Christian toilet (with a full tank of holy water).
There's still such a thing as being "too-much-in-excess"...

No...singing isn't wrong. It's the message that matters. There are R&B, rock, metal rock, and all kinds of genre singers in Christian Music.
God has given you a talent, all he asks is that you use it correctly and for the glory of God and creation.

*important* =)
the bible says everything you do, do it for the glory of God.
EVERYTHING
if you are singing for the glory of God it doesn't matter what kind of beat or flow you use... one of my friends use to rap (like many others) and hes pretty good at it. One day he was inspired to do it more in a religous type...
so in conclusion if you do it for the glory of God there is nothing wrong with it =)
R&B is just a "style" its the lyrics that brings glory or not to God.

i became on your difficulty a whilst in the past, basically shifting to a sparkling city (extra like a sparkling united states of america lolz). What church did you used to pass to? Adventist, Gospel, Catholic? From there you could initiate by making use of looking up those church homes that are close on your section. Use the yellow e book or information superhighway. Then pass to the church, meet the pastor and refer to him approximately your difficulty. pass with the aid of some places. Attend the sermons simply by fact they actually selection from one church to a distinctive. then you definately can settle on which one you prefer to start going to.
