People say if we get rid of the illegals then no one will pick the cabbage and clean the chickens. I say we get rid of the illegals and put the prisoners to work - make they earn their keep in prison. This way you reduce the illegal population and make good use of those scum who are otherwise sitting in prison and sucking up our tax dollars.

Prisoners to work?? That would be considered crule and inhuman. That's what we get for letting liberals rule for the past 40 years.

Can't trust prisoners, but FORCE the welfare sperm donor so called
daddies to pick our crops, no work...cut welfare off, the mommy can move
back home, with a relative, don't care where she goes....we did NOT make the
babies you keep having, ODD, you get free b/c pills, but some have 5 babies...
not taking the pill, well of course not, no money in that.

There is a way it would work. You know those underground fencing they have for dogs? And the dog has to wear that little shock collar so if it runs outside the fence it gets shocked.. Well if you wanted to use prisoners I would suggest someone come up with an idea like that. I think if they watch one of their buddies take off on the wrong side of the fence and see what happens to him they might think twice before trying to escape.
OK.. now for all you who are freaking out right now about the collar.. what is worse getting shot in the back as they are running away or to get a shock and make them fall to the ground??

Slavery was stopped in this country ! If you want to have slavery again....go find another country to fu(k with ! What is needed is a living wage paid to all legal workers ! If the field workers got double of what they get now ...the prices for the food they harvest would only go up by a few cents ! Most of the costs are generated by the 'middle men' who jack up the prices ! Remember...we ALL LIVE in a CIVILIZED society ! To use prisoners as slave labor because YOU think they are scum is against the 'Bill of Rights ! What do you think would happen if the govt. decided that more workers were needed? Do they just make more laws? It's a dangerous thing to do !

Actually that is already being done. Have you not heard of Prison Industries? They manufacture all sorts of things. They are heavy in the furniture business. Expecially office furniture. They make desks, chairs, panel systems and they also make clothes. Prison Industries has a catalog that is 5 inches thick on the products they makes. Colleges are required to buy their products over private dealers, even if their price is higher. I doubt they would want these prisoners picking lettuce.

Some states do so already, for special work projects. Of course then again that guy that wanted to kidnapped Letterman kid escaped from a work detail. And then the ACLU would cry about prisoner abuse and forced labor and then the unions would cry about the prisoners not being unionized sighhhh still a good idea though!

That was the case in the 1960s. Prisoners used to clean up the highways and dig ditches.............. Then one of them sued the state claiming it was illegal for a prisoner to work. Now they do nothing but sit inside their 12X12 cells and complain.

They do this, they often get prisoners to clean highways and stuff. Problem is, many people are more comfortable with a hard working illegal than a don't-care prisoner. The prisoners wouldn't do it because they wanted to, but rather because they had to. Also, getting them outside of jail leads to increase escape attempts.

Haven't you heard? Its inhumane to make prisoners work. The State of Texas prison system (and many other states as well) used to be mostly self sustaining with their own farm, ranch, etc. Then along came Mr. and Mrs. Liberal with their friends at the A.C.L.U.

Not a bad idea in some ways but it makes me think how things were in a communist state. I know we don't want that! They used to put people in work camps for no pay.Their crimes were usually something minor like not having a job and hanging out on the street corner.

There's something very unpleasant in your suggestion which I cant quite put my finger on.

Criminality and crimes are not entirely the result of the individual's volition, but in the vast majority of cases ( with the exception of murder and the like ) owing to the circumstances individuals find themselves in.. circumstances which are generated by society and in particular where the society in question is capitalistic, the circumstances of the individual are driven by the vested interests' government represents. In such cases when judicial action occurs, it seeks to be a means to preserve the status quo and deter rather than retribute. Putting prisoners to work would essentially allow those very elements of society which incite the existence of criminality to profit from the results, and that would be grossly inequitable and uncivilised.
