When I am walking in NYC, in museums, in stores and restaurants, I believe the citizen understand me a little when I speak french, I try always to speak their native language ! ! !

New Yorkers are cosmopolitan folk and will speak to anyone.
There are a lot of French people living in New York so it does not surprise me that the language is spoken there.
We like French because it makes us sound sophisticated
and it sounds melodic.
