Method
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth.

it all depends on what kind of sald you are preparing or in other words what the main ingredient is ie. fish, beef, lamb, chicken etc. as you must be careful to ensure the flavour of the dressing brings out the flavour of the salad and doesn't overpower it,
however once the main ingredients of olive oil & vinegar (i use either balsamic, wine or cider vinegar - each having it's own unique flavour) have been put to one side then the actual flavouring of the dressing is entirely up to you

i find the best way is just to experiment with flavours and find what suits you and the dish.

a great all rounder however is honey and mustard as it works well with most white and red meat dishes (not fish though)

try ginger, lemongrass, spring onion and chilli blitzed in a food processor with olive oil and white wine vinegar as an accompaniment to baked avocados halved and stuffed with tiger prawns - a great summer dish

This isn't original in flavor but it's really good, and good for you.

Homemade Low Fat Ranch (or other) dressing

1 16 oz container low fat cottage cheese
1/2 - 3/4 c skim milk
1 tbsp mayonnaise
1 envelope Ranch dressing mix. (You can use other flavors such as Parmesan Garlic etc as well).

Put milk, mayonnaise and the dressing mix in the blender and blend.
Add the cottage cheese and blend until smooth. Scrape down the sides if necessary.
Pour or scrape dressing into a jar and refrigerate before using.

You can make this thinner for dressing, or use the 1/2 cup milk if you like it thicker, as for dipping vegetables.

I've seen some yummy looking recipes here, but nothing quite like what I use. Usually I just have lettuce with Ceasar dressing, carrots, almonds and croutons. (YUM!) I usually buy the dressing pre-made, but here's a recipe I found on the internet.

But anyway, a homemade salad dressing recipe is what you wanted and this one is unique and delicious if you like sweet! Here's the recipe for the dressing.
1/3 Cup white vinegar
3/4 Cup sugar
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbs. minced dry onion
1 Tbs. poppy seed
1 Cup oil
Just mix them together in a bottle and serve over spinach, sliced strawberries, and pecans, walnuts, or almonds. (I prefer pecans)
I hope you like it!!! :)

Sure Ketchup & mayo (like a thousand island dressing) tiny pieces of cut up cooked bacon, garlic powder & parsley flakes-maybe some baby pieces of tomato or just some of the juice from a frash tomato to thin it out to your desired consistancy.

MMmmm yummy-it might just be my hunger speaking, but sounds good anyway!

i've got two favourites:

about 2 to 3 table spoons of olive oil about a teaspoon of red wine vinegar and a table spoon dollup of dijon mustard, stir it around until it turns into a creamy paste.

The other one faithfully follows a french recipe that i once read.
Get about a teaspoon of balsamic vinegar, sprinkle some salt into the vinegar and shake/stir it to disolve the salt.
Chuck the lot into a couple of tablespoons of olive oil and and a small amount of english mustard.

Both are lush~ enjoy your salad :P
