I like the assumption from people that the only women getting abortions are the unmarried whores. Nice. It's not, you know. Married women get abortions for a myriad of reasons, maybe an abusive situation, poverty - real poverty, failed birth control, etc. I'm sure a small number of women use abortion as birth control, but most women look at the issue and make the best decision they can at the time. And it tears them up.
Some women just cannot be pregnant, even long enough to give the child up for adoption. If you've never been so destitute, good for you, but can you really tell the waitress to take time off from her job for Doctor appointments and then to give birth when she can't afford to live on a full schedule? And what if her job disappears while she's gone? Even if she gave the baby up for adoption, she still has to live after.
Why do we value the life of a potential human more than the existing human?
And I love the previous poster who said that a woman could throw herself down the stairs, it was her body, but was against abortion. What???

Yes a few hundred women may still resort to back-alley coathanger abortions. But at least that number of women currently die from the effects of "safe legal" abortions, and many thousands more suffer lasting physical and mental trauma. Also, a million or more children per year can be saved from brutal slaughter. Do you also suggest legalizing robbery? The way it is now, thieves have to sneak around carrying weapons, and are at the mercy of intended victims who may shoot back. Why not make robbery safe and legal, so those who desire to do it won't be at such great risk?

You cannot but, at least you can put it in a way that they understand there are consequences. Freedom to choose leaves the impression that no matter what you "choose" there are no consequences and that is just not true. For one thing a baby is dead, and for another , deep inside that woman knows what she did and has a hard time dealing with it, that either shows up in depression or a hard heart because they do not want to acknowledge what they have done so they do not acknowledge any wrong doing at all as far as themselves go.

We need to get our society to realize that an unborn child is a human being. Societies have understood this for centuries, it is nothing new. We have to do this as a society so that the support is there for women who are pregnant, support from the father, friends, charity groups, churches and social programs. If a women knows that what she is carrying is a sacred human life, and that the help she needs is there for her, there will be no reason for her to get an abortion.

The point here is not the opinions of those who do not support abortion but the choices of those who choose it. That's all it comes down to.
If they're not ready for a baby, then why the hell aren't they taking precautions before hand?
You say they're risking their lives. Are you putting the responsibility of one woman's choice on the shoulders of those who did not make her mistake? Now, I'm not saying blame the pregnant woman who does not want her child. I'm saying, offer counseling and alternatives to killing the human life within her womb. Adoption, perhaps, if the problem is being able to support the child. And if it's a matter of pride, well she had darned well be able to swallow it and give birth.
Even if it's a rape baby, the adoption and counseling option is open.
My personal opinion: I don't think abortion is right, but I'm not gonna stop anyone. Maybe you should stop taking cheap shots at people who believe differently than you and look at both sides of the argument.

I always wonder why anti-abortionists don't have some large pro-adoption program out there to help folks deal with the pregancy. Of course, where is the fun if you can't "hate the sin but love the sinner" (and secretly judge them too)

The same holds true of heroin addicts, murderers, rapists, etc. I'm sure if these things were legal it would drastically reduce the negative effects of participation. But there is a reason they are illegal: because they are WRONG. And even though people still shoot heroin, murder people, and rape others (often at great expense to themselves), the numbers are greatly reduced because the law deters many who would otherwise participate in such acts from doing so. Just because some heroin addict gets bunk dope and dies is not a reason to make heroin legal.
Abortion is nothing less than murder. When you take another human being's life, even a defenseless fetus, you are guilty of murder. Dress it up anyway you want, that's what it is. And murder is WRONG

I like Cheerios answer (edit: even though she seems to have now deleted it). Just say that they will have to pay higher taxes to take care of all the unwanted kids. Neo-cons hate social programs more than they hate abortion. They just spout anti-abortion rhetoric to claim some sort of pseudo-moral superiority. I shall play my shamisen and dance to clear my mind of their evil idiocy.

Bottom line is: you can't force anyone to do anything. I can't force every woman to ahe their child. It can't be done. It's just frustrating when you hear about women who get pregnant and for no reason have an abortion becuase they don't want to have to deal with the reprocussions.
I'm also tired of people acting as if an abortions does not affect the woman who has it. They go through post-pardum depression- just as if they had a child.
People need to wake up and watch an abortion video.

It worked for the first 10,000 years, but suddenly it's gone out of style.
