I already have a dentist appointment, but trying to find out why I have a large swollen gum in my back teeth. I'm a hug popcorn eater and am thinking it might be a popcorn kernel that logged its way between my tooth and gum causing the large swelling. Does this sound accurate???

I had my wisdom teeth taken out last October.

A popcorn kernel could make your gum swell up if it is stuck. If your tooth is sensitive to hot, cold, pressure, and keeps you awake at night or wakes you up then you would have an abscessed tooth and will need a root canal to keep the tooth. It sounds like you have a popcorn kernel stuck in your gums though.

It might be an abscess on the gum trying to form. And if you been trying to picking at it or the kernel having a reaction to a prior gums bump. That use to happen to me all the same when I eat popcorn so I stop eating popcorn. Be a year since I had popcorn. I got a swollen gums on the right side as I'm typing. I have an expander put in like 4 month ago and got braces put on my top teeth like 2 weeks ago. And this morning I got rubber bands put on my front teeth. And I just notice the bump there. But make sure you point out the bump to you. So you will get an infection or nothing worse.

Perhaps.

My other two theories are: Maybe it's an absess of some sort. God forbid, cancer or anything like that. Maybe it's ust a cyst, those things could pop up anywhere.

Or it could be your wisdom tooth coming in. Mine didn't come all at once, they are coming in one at a time, breaking through about one every 2 years! So maybe yours are at the surface, waiting to break through, causing swelling and pain and the big bump!

Hope you find out good news at the dentist!

That could be it, it happened to my husband. His wisdom teeth were coming in and had caused a flap of skin to come up creating a little cubby that stuff like pop-corn Kernels could get into a rot. When he took it out it was so gross..... Hope that's all it is, good luck!
