Ok so I asked the question if the fact my 2 week, one day old Tattoo itching was a normal process and the answer I received across the board was Yes that is a normal healing process. One thing I did get conflicting answers on was if I should be still putting lotion on the tattoo. So should I still be using lotion?

You can use lotion on a tattoo indefinatly just like the rest of your body, if the skin is dry and itchy by all means use the lotion.

After two weeks, the ink will not (or SHOULD not) smear If it does, then there's a problem! At this point, now that the tattoo has finished peeling, using an unscented locion, like Curel or Lubriderm, is perfectly fine. I had my tat done a month ago and I still put lotion on to keep the skin smooth. Your best bet really, is to follow the instructions your artist gave to you, and ONLY those instructions. If you have questions on what to do/not to do...give them a call.

My tattoo artist told me that I was only allowed to use Curel or Lubriderm lotions without fragrance while it was scabbing and/or itching. The lotion would not affect the quality or the color of the tattoo, but it had to be the no fragrance kind. He also told me NOT to use Neosporin.

You should not be using lotion because the perfume and dyes can pull out the ink in the tatt and irritate the area that is healing. You DO however desperately need to keep it moisturized to keep the scab from going too deep, falling off and taking the ink with it. The person that did your tattoo should have informed you to put Vaseline or Neosporin on it 3-4 times daily until it is healed and the scab has fallen off. DO not pick, scratch, or rub the scab off. If you do this the scab will cause scaring and pull the ink out of your skin and you'll have to have it recovered. Also when washing your skin in the tatt area, wash gently with your hand don't use a wash cloth or loofa as it will also cause the scab to fall of prematurely. If your scab does fall off and take ink with it, you need to wait until your skin has a chance to regenerate in that spot before you have it filled in or the color won't look right.

I did apply on mine and there its beautiful w/o smear. Can try aloe vera lotion as aloe vera aids in healing process for peeling skin. At the same time it moisturiser and gentle on skin. =)

I would suggest burts bees ointment. My artist had me use that and it really helps. You can get it at Fred Meyers, Walgreens, health food stores.
