Well, I am in grade 9 and I love being homeschooled! I have gone to a public school for 8 years and liked it. But I have found that being homeschooled you can do so much more and I find that I am alot smarter. I don't have to pack my bag, make my lunch, wait for the bus, and get up in a rush every morning. Its a HUGE waste of time. I only work around 2-4 hours a day. I also HATE when people say "well, what about your social life?" "But ill have no friends if I am homeschooled". or" I dont no how I will survive if I am homeschooled". Give me a break, you can still keep in touch with your friends. What if we were all homeschooled? And only a few kids went to public? If we were all homeschooled I think it would be alot funner instead of going to school. So, what do you guys think about homeschoolers?

The idea that only homeschooled kids are socially awkward is really ridiculous.
I mean, people love to say, "all the homeschoolers I've ever known are (insert social problem here)."
Does it ever occur to them that
1) how many homeschoolers have you known in public schools? 2 or 3? You base your assumption on that?
2) there are public schooled kids who are socially awkward?
and
3) they are forming their opinion of a person in a new environment who is getting used to it-- I mean, if you took a public schooler out of school and brought him to a homeschool co-op, do you think the kid wouldn't hang back and look around and spend some time transitioning?

Contrary to a number of the other people answering, I actually know MANY homeschoolers and for the most part, they are just great. Yes, there are some weirdos, some socially awkward kids (who would likely have been awkward even if they went to school; I had at least one awkwardly social child in every one of my classes growing up and while teaching), but the most are great. They don't have a problem being around new people, talk to others and do things with them regardless of age or gender. Most of the homeschooled teens have a very good sense of who they are and don't feel the need to be like everyone else.
Funny thing is, the kids who are usually the "tight and shy" ones at homeschooling activities are not the long-time homeschoolers, but the kids who've been pulled from public school. And before someone says, "Yeah, but the homeschoolers know each other," they often don't. They are just so used to be around new people all the time it's not a big deal, but the kid who's just been pulled out of public school might as well be painted purple, they stand out so much.

Well I was public schooled and I'm socially awkward. PS did nothing for my social skills, except being bullied and teased as the norm. The homeschool kids I know are all bright, energetic, very well socialized (there are a few shy ones but there are shy kids in public school too) Homeschool kids around here get out a lot in the public. If anything they are more ready for the "real" world than public school kids.

I have a genius IQ. I wish I had been homeschooled; I think I would have learned more. I hated public school. I'm socially awkward, and spent all my formative years in public school. LOL College was better though. When I got to college, I was astounded at how little my high school had taught me. I went to a small high school in the middle of a cow pasture. There were 50 kids in my graduating class, and I hated them all. LOL

I love being homeschooled too. I am in 11th grade and plan to graduate before I am 16. I think public school is a major waste of time too. Also, I have a ton of friends, just in my homeschool group there are 70 + teens. Not to mention all the teens I meet through internships, college classes, volunteer work, art class, rock climbing club, tae kwan do, dance, etc. Geez... when I went to school I got in trouble for "socializing" yet thats everyones biggest ***** about homeschooling, not enough socialization. Some people truly just want something to ***** about, maybe they are just pissed because us homeschoolers keep taking scholarships from their public school kids.

I've no direct experience about that, because here in Italy homeschoolers don't exist (I think it is illegal)... Boys and girls are obliged to go to school until they've reached the age of 16, then they can go to work. We have public schools and private schools, and that's all! Anyway I think that your experience is precious and if the choice is between 'bad public or private school' and 'expensive school I can't afford' or a school too far to be joined easily... Welcome homeschool!!! And... you don't seem out of social life! Cheers, Marta

there is dance training, gymnastics training, karate, soccer, baseball, basketball, soccer, co-op, domicile college communities that do container journeys and get togethers, church, young infants communities, our church sponsors a club for grades 4, 5, and six, community young ones, young ones on the parks, well-being golf equipment, the checklist is as constrained because of fact the mothers and dads mind's eye. you will possibly meet some one on the grocery or financial organisation or working errands yet that's barely a couple of minutes in many cases even regardless of the undeniable fact that I do have self belief that even a couple of minutes can impression our infants. each guy or woman you meet has the skill to alter your existence in some way huge or small. it is not suitable in case you in basic terms meet them or you have popular them for years.

I homeschool too. I did public up to Grade 7, then started homeschooling. I did notice that i became socially awkward. Not that i hated being around people... it's just keeping a convo going, and stuff like that. I hate the socially awkward aspect of homeschooling.
