You are correct. A 2/3 is larger than a 1/2 carat diamond. However, the cut and setting could make the 1/2 carat look bigger.

buy 3 cookies, show her that 2/3 is 2 cookies, and half is one and a half cookies. She has a math problem. Although a half carat diamond, can look bigger than a two thirds, depending on the cut and shape.

She might have been thinking about quality. I always thought, the smaller the carat number, the better the quality, or something like that. Not that I know the difference between a cubic zirconia and a diamond!!!

You are right! two thirds is bigger than one half. Taking 100 as an example, then half is 50 but two thirds of 100 is 66 plus a little bit (one third being 33). Obviously 66 is more than 50! Show her this then you can prove it!

Logically 2/3 is bigger than 1/2.
But, in some cuts (Emerald cut and ovals) can make a stone APPEAR larger.
