If you are a witness and appear on the witness list with CPS, you will get a call from the witness care unit to update you, with the outcome of the hearing.
You don't say it was a trial, so it could be a plea and directions hearing, a mention or any number of hearings in reality, and the defendant does not always have to appear for these hearings.

go on to the local court case,see if he has asked for bail, then you will know, or ask around town, it will also be in your local paper, hope you find what you are looking for, all the best
