Once a weak I go for a 3 hour long walk. Usually in 95 degree weather(I live in florida). lol. When I get back I never feel exhausted or tired or even like I worked out. I'm 16. What do you think?

I usually run 3.5 miles every other day. And then I work out inbetween those days. But the last 2 weeks I have been in a hotel so I have just been walking. And I grab water on the way. I think i'm going to start running it though. It has to be atleast 7 miles.

well, i am a fellow floridian and i can relate to the disgustingly hot weather..lol..

walking 3 miles definitely is exercise.. if your walking at a pretty steady pace, that is a little over 9 miles.. i walk all the time and it takes about 40 minutes to clear 3 miles.. and less if im speed walking or running! and i never get tired anymore either... i was inthe beginning, but my body is so used to it that its normal for me now.. your just in good shape!

It is best to exercise for at least 30 min. a day at least 3 times or more a week. The idea is to get your heart rate up above normal for those 30 min. So if you are just strolling and taking breaks to talk to friends or sit and hang out at the park then no you are not really getting a good work out. Try separating that 3 hour walk into 1 hour a day 3 days a week and instead of strolling or just walking try jogging or walking briskly. you should be able to tell when your heart rate is up. keep this pace for at least 30 min of your walk.

ex. Start at a walk for 5 min. stretching to loosen up. then jog or "power walk" (walk quickly) for at least 30 min. then go back to a walk for about 10 - 15 min. and let your heart slow down (not stopping your walk cold turkey). This should be better for you and give you even more energy.

To get any real value out of the walking you have to include varying the route to take in rising footpaths to put some sort of a work out on the legs and thighs.

Despite how old you are a bottle of water should always be carried in case of dehydration.
Another variation would be to carry a rucksack with 10 - 15 kilos in it, but no need to go Rambo! :-P

Depending on the distance you travel it could be very good exercise but once a week is not enough
