I'm Mormon and I have heard and read a lot of things. Most of it friviulous. I'm laughing at the bit of Joseph Smith marrying a twelve year old and than another poster wrote a 14 year old. The sexual mores of the 1840s and the consent to marriage is different from now a days. I even read that some southern states say with parent approval that a 14 year old can get married. There's no evidence that Joseph smith comsummated his marriage with that girl. Emma his first and main wife was the only one who bore him children.

Aurora wrote that they changed their name to The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints...oh from what were they before?

One person wrote they ostracize Ex Mormons, well protestants ostracize Mormons period. We don't drink coffee, we don't smoke tobacco and don't drink alcoholic drinks.

As for polygamy, we haven't practiced polygamy for almost 110 years. The FLDS are the only ones practicing it and are strange and weird. They don't do any missionary work at all
so they marry their own cousins etc...and the gene pool is corrupted with no new outside genes.

The symbols on the Salt Lake and Nauvoo aren't satanic at all. They have nothing to do satan. That's supersticious nonsense.

As for calling us a cult, well most non mormon and non anti mormon theologians call us a new religious tradition.
We almost 13 million if not more than 13 million strong.
We are two million away from Judaism.
We should pass them up in a few years.

If you want to know about Mormonism, ask a mormon or go talk to some mormon missionaries.

The evolving into a God is more like a pagan belief or a darwinistic belief. When I grew up Mormon, the men would test a female to see if she was worthy, this was a sexist way of seeing how far a mormon man could get with a women, it is a side effect of the belief from polygamy, even if mormons don't practise it, it is still their. The idea that it was up to a women to control herself and the guy on a date was also very sexist, this was the way it was when i grew up mormon in the the 80's in SLC, UT. And if a girl got pregant, oh that was tabot.

Well, I'm not Mormon, or any religion for that matter, but I find the Mormon religion LESS hateful and biased than Christianity, that's for sure. At least no Mormon has ever tried to force their beliefs down my throat or force their religious beliefs into the government...that I'm aware of anyway.

The only thing I would call 'irresponsible' about the Mormon religion is its disregard for population control. There is a bank president in Indianapolis who, with his wife, have 14 children. With world population exploding, I think they should curb having so many kids. Why 10 - 15 kids? Why not just be happy with 3-5?

I'm also LDS and yeah you will hear a lot of people tell you a lot of false things about us, especially on here. yes, i have heard that people think we worship the devil and that we are a cult and everything else false about us, I've heard it all (OK maybe not all, but a lot) people only fear what they don't know, and since they have never taken time to educate themselves, they will say whatever they want, you'll find that people, even if they aren't lds, but have studied what we believe, will give you an educated answer and will usually say something like, "i don't think i believe it but Mormons are actually normal and nice" but don't let it get to you, tell people what we really believe, but when you can't change some body's mind just laugh it off because if they are too narrow minded and prejudiced to learn then too bad for them, they will always cling to that hate, but hate isn't a good thing for you to let consume your life, just point out the falsies and laugh it off.

It is no weirder than some other sects and cults, like fundamentalists.

However, that i damning it with faint praise.

You need to take an independent look at the events and people founding the Mormon church. And what they believed.

It is true that the Mormon Church no longer practices racism or polygamy. But that is because there are illegal in the US, not because of some revelation within the church. (Other than 'Oh god they are going to put us in jail if we do not change!')

Any relgions that doesnt follow only the Bible and Gods teachings is not of God. any religious organization that changes things from the Bible, that is wrong and its sin. God says we arent to add or take away anything from the Bible. Does this religion you refer to as Mormonism , does that go along fully with the Bible. No. Where in the BIble does it say that Jesus and the devil were brothers? ANy religion that is contrary to Gods word is not of Him at all. Not my call, but Gods. I just tell ppl, if you cant proof your faith with the Bible alone, it is not true religion. It is false.
Try prooving all you are taught with just the Bible and not the teachings of the church. Its man made and that is wrong I cant tell you what to believe, but I can tell you to leave this for awhile, get a Bible, a regular Bible, and just study and pray and see what all God shows to you. When anyone puts their belifs above what God says, then its not truly of God. Only GOd has the answers to everything in this life.
It doenst mean that ppl in flase beliefs are bad. Many are led into error by others and dont realize it. Read the writings of Ed Dekker, you can find him on the web. He is an ex mormon, and has written so much about it, with evidence, not just running any group down. Check it out at the library too, before you get any further into this, and then YOU choose what you believe, dont let anyone else do it for you, even Ed Dekker. Its only what God says, But Ed will show you the errors taught, and its all so clear. Many have left the church because of this wonderful man, but all that are left there are still good ppl, and we should love them and keep praying for them. God loves us all, but He does want us to know truth and obey it. God bless you in your search.

Hello
I'm also a Mormon....Yes I have heard lots of things that sometimes make me just laugh. I try not to let things bother me. Usually the anti-Mormons make things up....All I can say...if you want to learn about a Mormons...find some LDS missionaries...they can help you better than an anti-Mormon can. Also....most people look at the stuff we used to do and not at the stuff we do now...for example we do not practice polygamy anymore.

Having studied the Mormon religion for many years, I have to say it's not what it claims to be. Joseph Smith's changing story about the origins of it alone are enough to throw up a big red caution flag. The fact that its doctrine changed with pressure from the community around it is another. The practice of polygamy specifically violates N.T. scripture and many of its doctrines are not supported by anything other that the say-so of Joseph Smith. The origin of the Book of Mormon is suspicious at best. The fact that Joseph Smith "translated" made-up plates shows him to be a fraud - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinderhook_plates

I would recommend seriously comparing Mormon doctrine to the Bible and really investigating its origins.

Weird, yes. Worship the devil? No

As I understand it, the primary philosophy of Mormonism is that 'as man is, God once was, and as God is, man may become.' Basically that is a deception. God is the creator of the universe and man is part of His creation. Men don't become God or gods. Also, Mormons believe that Jesus and Satan are brothers. Also a deception. Jesus is God the creator, Satan was a created being, an angel.

im mormon, and im from california. of course ive heard that crap. i have heard other things that arent true, such as we cant drink soda, and were not allowed to dance, cant eat meat, we have many wives. i've heard all kind of wack things, none of them are true. if you think a certain rumor is true, you should ask or refer to a mormon, not an anti-mormon. ive seen the dumbest things, some people will give out these pamphlets about the church that are false, and they are given by anti mormons, then they say if u have questions call ths number or whatever, ask the source not the people against it
