Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus, just to name a very few of the many men in the bible who can be described as "strong, dynamic, independant, decision-making".

Can you name four comparable women from the Bible? Four women whose lives and deeds are as chronicled, and as important, in the Bible as these four men?

Note: neither Mary nor Sarah have nearly as many verses devoted to them as to any one of the men I've mentioned.

No.

In the days of the disciples, women were not as important as a man was. They were simply the homemaker in any of the relationships, it was the men that made the money and brought home the food. So the women of the bible were just as you said.

As we know, times have changed alot since then. :)

Esther, Judith, Deborah, Ruth, the mother of the 7 sons in the Book of Maccabees is never given a name. But she is a very strong woman.

While "Wisdom" - i.e. the Holy Spirit, isn't a woman, the Book of Wisdom is in the feminine as the Hebrew word for Holy Spirit is feminine.

If you're using a Protestant bible, you're missing a lot of the best women of the bible. It's long been one of those little ironies. Protestants claim Catholics ignore women. But it's the Protestants who removed some of the best books about women from their bibles. If Luther had had his way he would have pulled Esther too. He hated the Book of Esther and indeed Esther herself because she was "so Jewish."

Dear Friend Neutral: Lilith was never part of scripture. The whole idea that Lilith was the original first woman comes from a play. NOT from scripture.

The ancient Hebrew description of Lilith is was and always will be demonic. The wife of Satan. Not the wife of Adam.

Ruth. Esther. Rahab. Mary Magdalene. While they didn't get a lot of coverage, it cannot be denied they were strong, dynamic, independant, and decision-making women, and that history itself was wrought in their decisions. Rahab is even mentioned along with Moses, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in Hebrews 11, the "By Faith Hall of Fame." No small testimony there.

Eve will be forever remembered for her part of the creating the first sin on earth but she also received the first promise of the Messiah. (Savior)

Esther was a beautiful Jewish maiden who was placed by God in the unlikely position of risking her life to courageously save the entire nation of Israel.

Deborah was a strong-minded and unique woman in Old Testament times. Besides the usual role as wife, she was a prophetess, warrior and Judge of Israel.

Mary of Nazareth, who was given the honor of giving birth to Jesus, risked her life when she humbly accepted the frightening responsibility of an "out-of-wedlock" pregnancy.

Mary the Magdalene was delivered of seven demons and went on to join other women in ministering to Jesus’ needs. She recognized his Deity even before some of his male disciples.

Lydia was a successful businesswoman when few women had personal income. She was taught by Paul and is thought to be the first in Europe to follow Jesus.

Sorry - not taking the bait.

Women in the Bible were special and wonderful for their own reasons - they just weren't generally powerful leaders like these men. They were generally helpmeets to their husbands.

Lydia
Ruth
Hannah
The Proverbs 31 woman

Oh yes, and Esther (Hedassah) - she had an entire BOOK dedicated to her and she saved her entire nation.
