I've been trying to lose weight now for over 5 years with no real luck. I'm a 29 yr old male. I'm not a big junk food eater such as chips choch bars, candy, pop, ice cream and so one. I'll have if I had to say what I would have in the way of junk food out of any of these things a week I'd say I'd have only one portion of junk food a week. And I mean a portion not the whole tub of ice cream or bag of chips sort of thing. I carefull with my portions and I try to watch what I eat. I try to eat things that will keep my full longer. I do work out. Its only 30 min a day I have an elliptical and bike. I do walk with my dog a lot during the week. So during all of this time I've not put any extra weight on but I'm not loosing any. I only need to loose about 75-85 lbs (pills are not an option) just need maybe more help with what I"m doing. or somthing I'm not doing.

Talk to your doctor and a nutritionist to get the full story, but I would suggest getting more fiber (if you're not already). Perhaps increase the resistance and duration of the exercises you're already doing.

best of luck.

Eat less or excersize more, or its best to do both. Get a book and honestly write down everthing you eat, measure your food and weigh it as required. Note all calories then add the calories you are consuming and reduce it by 10%. Wiegh your self weekly if you are not seeing the results you desire reduce your intake more. Look at the calories on food that are marked sugar free, carb free or fat free you may find a that the are low in calories but you may not. Reducing carbs and fat is a good way to reduce calories there are many many many good foods avaliable now that will help you reduce your calories while eating things you enjoy. I lost 50 lbs doing these things. I used the book calorie king as a calorie referance it is like a years worth of wieght watchers for $6. Don't expect to lose more than a pound or 2 a week but stick with it, it works.

I can tell you your problem, and you are going to be very surprised by it ... you are NOT EATING ENOUGH to 'lose weight' ... so what you need to do is 'count all of the calories' you take in during the day, and 'add' enough calories to that intake in GOOD FOODS to get you 'up to' the amount where you can lose weight. You should also do a 'calorie rate' for the 'stuff you do' to burn calories (and you even burn them when you are 'asleep' although not nearly as many as when you are exercising. Your 'two amounts' should be 'taking in' 500 calories LESS per day than you are 'burning' ... but if you are eating less than 1500 calories a day, you are in 'starvation mode' and will need to do enough 'exercise' to be able to bring your 'intake total' up to that amount.
Next ...you'll need to make some 'changes' in what you are eating. Get 'good lean protein' every day, and a 'little bit of starch/sugar' for energy, but make sure that MOST Of what you eat is 'vegetables and fruit' ... and please eat only FRESH STUFF, not canned or even 'frozen' ... because your 'other problem' may be that you are taking in 'way too much salt' and that can make you 'retain water' ... so, please don't 'add salt' beyond two 'shakes' of a 'regular' salt shaker to any meal, and drink AT LEAST 64 ounces of 'good drink' ... water, herbal tea ... and start 'watering down' your 'fruit drinks' by putting 1/4 of the amount you 'usually drink' into a glass and then filling the glass up with water. You'll find that if you do this 'diet properly with GOOD FOOD', 'exercise properly for your fitness level' and drink lots of water, you'll 'start losing' weight ... at the 'best rate' of about 2 pounds a week. You won't get all 'saggy skin' if you do your exercises (and I'd 'up' that to an hour a day but do it only 4-5 days a week) and 'cut your junk food' down by half (it's got either 'way too much sugar' or 'way too much of the wrong fats' and is 'harming your diet' with that) and eat LOTS OF FRESH FRUIT instead, and you'll be 'slim and trim' (or at least 'slimmer and trimmer' and be a lot healthier for the rest of your life.

Putting on weight or not being able to lose means you are taking in at least as many, or more calories than your body needs. Regardless of whether you eat "junk" or not, you are taking in too many calories. The only real way to assess is to count them. This means to weigh and measure your portions to get an idea of what TRUE portion size actually is. We are NOTORIOUSLY bad at estimating accurate portion size. Keep a food diary for a week or so of how much and what you are eating. Then take a look at it and see where you can cut calories.

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

i have the same problem. I have also been struggling with my weight for many years. i found that when i increased my cardio efforts of my routine it helped a lot. I started to drop the wieght then of course i'd end up pregnant again. but anyways now i am still having a hard time and come to fond out its my thyroid. I have hypothyroidism. this means that my thyroid is not sending enough of the hormone throughout my body in order for me to keep buring calories. maybe you might want to have thast checked. but i would start with extra cardio. good luck!
