So I was in class today doing some small group discussions in my Communications and Gender class and this kid next to me says, "So, how old are you?" out of nowhere, and I said, "Guess."
Him: "22?"
Me: Nope
Him: 23??
Me: higher
Him: 24????? (Raising eyebrows in shock)
Me: Try again
Him: 25???!!! Wow! Well I mean, you still look young!
HAHAHAHAHA. Wow. Then he says the classic,
"So how come you're not married yet???"
I say nothing. Because really, that nosy buggy question doesn't warrant a response, nor does it have an answer. And he says, "Well there's always the sperm bank."
HE SAID THAT!!!!! And when I looked at him to see if he was joking, he wasn't! He said, "No seriously, I mean that's always an option for people like you. I know a few girls who've considered it"
PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!!!!!!!!
So my question is, what the hell is Utah's deal?

I know the whole state can't be blamed, but I face things like this all the TIME here! "Why aren't you married" and all that stuff. It's screwing up my psyche! I go to the U of U btw.

Not Utah, it's that guy who thinks things are still 1835 and you're supposed to marry at 14. However, I'd rather ask you something...does it bother you to be 25, unmarried and without children? Cause I'm 25 and don't have any of that and I'm proud of it! I have a lot of time and I don't want to be all settled right now. Next time you get asked that, just smile and say "What's the rush?" and that'll stop the questions. As for that kid, ask him if he's donated any boys and you'll go look into getting yourself knocked up by him. Raising an idiot must be pretty easy, right?

Nothing to do with Utah its called immaturity. There have been tons of articles lately in psychology mags that say that an adult now isnt considered to be responsible or to hold true accounts for their actions until the are now 25! The common old number was 18 but now with helicopter parents and boomerang children, this is all being seriously reconsidered. Heck one of the popular movies was Failure to Launch. So ignore the talk for what it is. Someone that sees something thats different then how your generation sees it. If wants to get married so bad, let him.
Next time ask him, How old are you? And when he tells you, ask him, so when does your Mom expect you home from school today?
And when he flips just ignore him. Let the immaturity prove your case all by itself.

It's a Mormon thing. They believe that you should marry at an early age, then proceed to spit out litters of kids that are 9 months and 15 minutes apart in age. Not all of us here in Utah are that way but the majority of the people are. It's just another example of living behind the "Zion Curtain"

Utah is primarily Mormon.
Mormons put a HUGE emphasis on marriage and family.
Are you attending the University of Utah or Utah State? or are you attending BYU? or elsewhere? I'd be curious to know.
He probably didn't realize he was causing offense. I'm not excusing the behavior, but he may not have intended to offend.

Careful, you are moving into his area of expertise. that being, generalizing humans. He would be a jerk in Rhode Island, Alaska or any other place in the world.
Utah's problem is that it hasn't legislated a law to permanently silence jerks. Maybe we can get them to start a trend?

hes just another freak.. dont listen to him.. we all have our reasons for not rushing into getting married and having kids right away. i mean come on.. there is so much time.
you just need to ignore him, and focus on the postives. liek that you dont look as old as you really are, which could come in handy sometimes, but sometimes it could be bad. ok nevermind.
just ignore what he is saying. you are way go good for that crap. have fun- and enjoy your life..without the sperm banks.lol
