The 3 year old is a mixed american bulldog/mastiff (he is fixed). The puppy is a german/rot mix, these 2 get along . The dog next door is a basset hound has not beed fixed. It has only started in the past couple of days that the two older dogs (they have been around each other since puppyhood) are getting aggressive through the fence. Today it was when I and the puppy walked up the fence line and I bent down to the puppy and the dog. My dog ran up to the fence and the aggression started. Is this just a phase he is going through until we get the puppy fixed. I am thinking it is a jealous thing. We have always gone up to the fence and patted the other dogs with no problem is he trying to get dominace over all the dogs. Any help and advice will be welcome.

They may feel that they are somehow protecting. Any aggression needs to be dealt with immediately. They could just be establishing a pecking order and letting the other dog know who is in charge. Dogs are pack animals in nature.
