Why not a Luau? Luaus are cheap, and absolutely fun! You can buy plastic martini cups and fill them up with sprite/coke. Then, stick an umbrella toothpick in it. How cute is that? For food, you can buy some french bread, cut them down the middle and then into little sandwich sized portions. Then, have ham, lettuce, tomatoes, and other sandwich ingrediants available on a table. The kids would be able to make their own sandwiches. Neat, huh? As for decorations, you can decorate the house with rubber ducks and palm tree stuff. At my local walmart, they have an aisle with luau-related things. Pink or green table clothes look really cool, too. Give out some leis (those colorful hawaiian neckclaces) as party favors for a simply adorable touch! For games, you can have the kids go to the pool. If you live in a cold area, that might not be such a good idea, but there's always the pools at the recreational park! If you're able to, the pool is the best for a luau party, trust me. If not, you can play twister (by far the BEST party game ever!), have kareoke, take the kids to a park, or have an at home movie. If a luau thing doesn't suite you, perhaps a sleepover? Have all the kids bring their favorite pillows/blankets and pjs. For food, you can order pizza and buy tons of popcorn/candy! Way to stick to tradition! Must not forget smores! For drinks, you can have root beer floats (CAUTION: Will make a mess and attract bugs!), milkshakes, sodas, or milk! (with cookies, of course.) Decorations can be anything, really. It's best not to decorate too much, or the little ones wouldn't feel at home. I suggest just moving the furniture a bit, so expensive vases and stuff are out of the way. Also, you should put a large, fuzzy rug in the middle of your living room, in front of the tv. The girls can sleep on it, lay on it, anything! Don't forget the comfy sofa! The games they can play are seriously unlimited. They can watch a movie (scary movies are best), paint eachothers nails, do eachothers makeup, kareoke, play games (in the toy aisle at any superstore, you can find tons of sleepover games like twister, fib finder, etc), make up new dance moves, or just gossip the whole night long!

Pre-teens love jewelry & fashion. Whatever is in.
If she has pierced ears, get her NICE earrings.
Or an outfit ~ jeans or capris with a cute T.
This is the last year she will be a "child" ~ next year it will be teenager. Does she have her own phone in her room, that would be another good gift. Preparation for teenage years.

I let my daughters start wearing make up when they turned 12. I think they got make up from me, their grandmother and their aunt. Does she have pierced ears? Earrings are good, if she does. Shoes & clothes, unless she's hard to please. Gift cards are always good. You could give her a gift card and then tell her you will take her shopping and make a special day for the two of you to spend together. Have lunch out and shop together.

this might sound silly but take her to an antique warehouse with a certain amount she can spend...i had tons of fun when my family took me and there are always pretty things for a girl to find.....and by letting her pick things out she wants she will feel more like you relate to her as an adult, which is very important as i am sure you well know....good luck!

You may have to clear it with her parents, but a pre-paid cell phone would probably be a big hit. I have one for my daughter and she loves it. She earns the amount we put on the phone through her chores so the more she does to help, the more time she gets on the phone!
