i like shanes diamods. i don't know if there is one over that way. but you could get on their website www.shanes.com. when my husband and i picked out rings, he took me with him, i picked out my three favorite bands. then he came back later, picked out his favorite band and the diamond to go in it. that way, i got a say in it, he still got to choose everything. and it was still a surprise what i got, plus, since he didn't propose for over two months after we got the ring and he kept saying that they had problems with it (just so i wouldn't know he had it) that by the time he proposed that was also a big surprise. congrats!

While going to little local stores are great, I opted to go to a large chain for a few reasons.
The first reason was the fact that my job will take me all over the place and I'm not sure where we will be living in a couple of years, I'd rather use a chain I know is going to be close by whever I end up. If anything happens to my ring I want to be able to go to the shop its from instead of having to mail it or take it somewhere else and have to pay for repairs, etc.
Also, the selection was much larger and I was able to find the perfect ring. I didnt have to hunt. I was actually able to pick out a few and let my fiance surprise me with the ring he choose from those as well as the carat size.
The last reason was price. We were able to get a much better price at a chain then at the local stores. We got a much clearer, nicer diamond for our budget. We also got a great warrenty and maintenence package.

So, that my experiance. We ended up buying a ring at Jareds after much research and I've been very happy with their service.

Jareds. You can pick out the diamond you want and the setting. plus they have great diamond guarantees, and gold warranties, so your ring is always , plus if you move you can always take your ring to a nearby jared, kays, any company owned by sterling for your diamond inspections, etc

I would personally let him pick it out. My husband and his father flew to a jeweler in New York to get my engagement and wedding ring and I would not have had it any other way. The element of surprise is a wonderful thing.

We went to really nice places like Tiffany's just to look and then he had mine made. Go to a fancy place and then go to a local place to have it made. Remember mall places charge 300% markup because they have to pay for rent and the name.

look up wholesalers in your area. don't buy at the mall. they're way overpriced cuz of their advertisement, overhead, etc.
