If only the hair is changing colors, I wouldn't worry so much. If your dogs skin is also changing to an odd color and you dog is acting not quite itself, then there may be a problem. Many things can cause the dogs hair color to change such as the afore mentioned chlorine in pools, and also sun can bleach it out some too. I doubt diet has anything to do with it because it would take some time to take effect. Try altering your dogs activities (ie - no swimming, change shampoo, etc) and see if that helps. If your dog is not acting like used to or there is skin discoloration as well, get a vet involved. Hope this helped.

Hair is turning purple?
That's sound a little strange.
Does your dog go in a swimming pool?
The chlorine may cause it to turn a different color.

Honestly I never heard of that, but you need to call the vet and ask them.

Now, if it is the dog's mouth gums turning purple, that is a severe condition with the heart.
The body is not getting enough blood.
Immediately get it to a vet.

What breed have you got and how long has this transformation been taking place?
If it has been less than a day . . . why are you still here?
If it has been gradual . . . some breeds will change coat color as they age - Kerry Blue Terriers for instance - or it can be a chemical bleaching the hair (chlorine in pools) but if you don't have a pool . . . run to the vet!
Sun can bleach hair too making silky black hair appear blue, red, or purple . . .
Let us know!

I agree with stephanie, but seriously, what you should do is sell it to the circus.
Or maybe an acid reflux commercial! They have those purple pills, why not have a purple dog as a spokesman?!
That would be sexy, and with the money you could buy a normal dog.

Don't wait to see if some shampoo or the chlorine has something to do with the color of the fur. Take him/her straight to the vet, this could be life or death. You do not want to waste your time to see if it is the products you are using. Take your dog to the vet right away. You wouldn't wantyour dog to die b/c you were wasting you time trying to find out if this or that is causing it. Best of luck to you are please tell us what happened to you dog!! :)

well lets try to use a little common sense. here is the situation as narrated by u. "hmmmm my dogs fur looks weird. like a weird color. ohh i know instead of taking the dog to the vet i am going to go on Yahoo! Answers and i am going to ask people what is wrong with my dog. i know i should take it to the vet but this is faster and cheaper" seriously y do people put me through this torture. ok there is something wrong. obviously not everyone on here is a vet and even if they r they cant diagnose ur dog without seeing it so y dont u get in ur car or get in ur parents car and drive ur dog to the vet or have ur parents drive u to the vet. i mean seriously people always ask this. there is something wrong with my dog what should i do. GO TO THE VET

I would definitely take your dog to the vet. but, it maybe (not saying that it is, it might be more serious) from something she/he ate. when dogs eat something it goes straight to their fur. My friend's dog at food grease (like a big tub from her owner's restaurant) and my friend took her to the vet immediately. the vet made her cough it up but not all of it came up. she smelled like grease for the next few weeks and her fur was grease.

Are you bathing a white dog with a bluing shampoo? If not, you should ask your vet just to make sure the dog isn't being poisoned.
