my daughter is 2, she has had the chicken pox vaccine...but she has areas of small red rashes on her body. she has three on her right leg, two on her left leg, and a couple on each arm, and a couple on her stomach. a couple of the spots have what looks like a bug bite, with a little raised bump. she's not scratching them, but when i touch them she jerks away like its painful. could this be the start of chicken pox or something else? any answers are appreciated! thanks! oh yeah, and she's got diarreah and she threw up her oatmeal this morning.

Even if she has had the vaccine, she could still have a mild form of the Chicken Pox, which is definitely better than getting the full blown disease. Chicken Pox causes a red, itchy rash with multiple small red bumps that look like pimples or bug bites. They then develop into tiny little blisters filled with clear fluid that will eventually break, crust over and form scabs. (If she has the disease, she is contagious from 2 days before the rash appeared until the scabs form.) Some people have fever, abdominal pain, nausea, headache, etc. They may even have these symptoms a day or two before they develop the rash. Even though there is usually nothing a physician can really 'do' for this, you may want to make an appointment to confirm the diagnosis. Don't go into the main waiting room, ask where you should wait so as not to expose other patients.

FYI to others, just because Chicken Pox is a common disease, it can still be very dangerous and cause life-threatening complications. That is why it is wise to get the vaccine.

It could very well be. That is the thing about the vaccine, sometimes it GIVES people the pox, and its not 100% effective.

Take her to the doc to confirm it. Get her some Aveeno Oatmeal Bath too.

Good Luck! (and dont feel bad, its better to get the illness, than the vax anyway =)
