if you were born in the united states, your hand, finger, and footprints were taken at the hospital. most likely anyone guilty of burglary to a motor vehicle has a prior arrest record somewhere. this will be the data bank that is searched by the police. there is a very good chance that they will get a hit....good luck.
*******the mere fact that 3 idiots would give a thumbs down response to my answer should prove why americas prisons are full. i love DUMB criminals, they make our job so much easier......

There are several types of people that have their fingerprints on file. It used to be that only convicted felons had files in AFIS, now everyone that's arrested, no matter the charge, is printed. Military personnel and police officers are also printed and entered into the system. Anyone that has a job dealing with children is supposed to be printed. We run a service to schools where the children are fingerprinted, but the only existing cards are given to the parents who are told to keep in a safe place in case they're needed in the future; the police don't keep copies of them.

While everyones fingerprints are on file somewhere, in the U.S. we are all fingerprinted when we are born; it's the database that they are in that matters. Only people arrested and had their prints taken at the time of booking would be in the database that the police would most likely look. In some cases, they also have access to other databases that would include people not previously arrested. Think CSI Las Vegas where they also look in the Gaming Commission database or NCIS where they have access to the military fingerprint database. So say there is a case of corporate theft and they beleive that it is an inside job and all employees are fingerprinted when they are hired, they might look at that database.

NO, only if the person has been booked on a charge are their fingerprints on file.
They may still catch the person even if their fingerprints are NOT on file, once any stolen property shows up ~ it can be traced to that person possibly.
Otherwise, file an insurance claim and chalk it up to a LOSS. Everyone has been broken into sometime or other in their lifetime. Just be glad nobody was hurt in the process.

Mostly only convicted criminals have thier fingerprints on file. And your friend had better just cut thier losses on the break in. The police will do nothing to catch the person who broke in. Just feel lucky that the car wasn't stolen, or else the police would make your friend pay a few hundred dollars to get it back, if it was ever recovered.

No. If you've been arrested in the past or taken a job that required you to be finger printed or had an immigration application processed then your prints would be on file. I've never been printed to they can't be on file anywhere.

If they have been arrested, they are on file. But I think the police don't have the resources to go after common car thieves very well. Especially since they didn't really take anything or give signs that they are good criminals.

No, not everyone's prints are on file.
Some have theirs on file because they have been arrested before and some have theirs on file because of the job they do.

In America, no, not everyone's prints are on file.
Your prints get into the national system if you are arrested, apply for a clearance, etc.
