Cut a hand off? Indentured servitude to the person who’s ID they stole? Jail time? What would a fair punishment be? Should they have to payback the peoples who’s lives they have been stealing?
I’d love to hear from those PRO-ILLEGAL immigrant zealots that think that this isn’t a problem, and those who have run into legal or financial problems because some illegal(s) has been using their stolen ID.

Prison - they are felons! After they have served their time, deportation. They should never be able to become citizens!

It would be nice if they could pay-back the money the stole but that is probably impractical and they couldn't do it.

Part of the damage they have done isn't only about money. They destroy lives.

I heard about a woman that received over 75 W-2s because her identity had been stolen and the illegals had jobs based on that SS#. She had a major problem with the IRS since SHE had to prove that she didn't have those jobs, all over the US.

So, all you pro-illegals out there - this is not a victumless crime! This woman had a problem that SHE had to clean up even though it was an obvious error and SHE didn't cause it! It took YEARS to get things fixed!

Stealing an ID is already against the law, regardless of the persons immigration status. They should be prosecuted. Why would you think that what you call "pro illegal" people would have a problem with that?

I am pro-immigration reform(not pro illegal as so many of you call it) and I think that a fair punishment for stealing someone's identity is 6 months in jail.

Anyone who steals another person's I.D. is low life scum, illegal or legal and strict punishment should follow . How can they pay restitution when they're already stealing someone else's life? I still say convict labor is the answer to many of America's problems. If they run they die and then the crime rate will drop. I guarantee it!

A fair consequence for those undocumented workers in any country is amnesty. Trust me, if they had the chance to work here with their own papers, they would. Oh and another thing, one need not be an immigrant to use another's identity, so stop making it seem that way. Listen, I don't know why so many people are against immigrants, especially those that don't have papers. If you do just a small amount of real, open-minded research, you will find that they are a great boost to our economy. In fact, you yourself are a descendant of immigrants, and they most likely didn't have "legal" papers either. I hope you write back.

Zealot? ( a member of a fanatical sect arising in Judea during the first century A.D. and militantly opposing the Roman domination of Palestine)- I don't consider myself one.

Now to answer your question- fair punishment would be imprisonment- same conviction a person who is legal would get if convicted of such crime.

What would the punishment be for any of US who used stolen IDs? It should be the same.

They are stealing ID to blend into our society. They should be treated as the enemy and be arrested as an enemy combatant. They are undermining the sovreignty of our nation. They might be terrorists. Teach those caught a hard swift lesson and those who try in the futire may realize it isn't worth the punishment.

I should think it should be at least as strong as for legal immigrants or citizens who use stolen Id's. They should be charged with fraud and prosecuted under existing law, then tried for breaking immigration law and finally should have to make restitution for any costs. Deportation seems appropriate to me.

They should be deported.
It isn't just illegals stealing id's though. To place them all inot one catagory is really wrong. There are plenty of con-men and women who are white, black, and many other races that are here legally. What kind of penalty to they get? A slap on the wrist and some small jail time.
There simply isn't enough room in our prisons to jail everyone who does this.
Thus, I believe that the death penalty should be enforced more. . . Espacially in without-a-doubt murder and repeat sex offender cases. . .
