This is a question for the Christians.

I attended a secular college, studied history, believe that the world is billions of years old and believe in evolution and vote Democrat. I go to the bar on Friday nights, love to gamble, live with (and adore) a gay roommate, and even (gasp) have sex.

Yet I believe in God as much as the next person claiming to be a Christian. I go to church and absolutely love to read theology books. And, as is becoming increasingly apparant, I love to argue about history and religion.

Anyone else like me out there?

To clarify:
1: Why I'm not a deist: I don't believe in God just as in impersonal force, but rather do believe the traditional Christian outline of salvation and that's why I identify myself as a Christian.
2: To the Christians who somehow seem to think I must not have a personal relationship with God because I "sin": I actually have a very mature personal relationship with God and that's not for you to judge anyway.

What boggles my mind is why Christians are so keen on identifying and attacking "sin" such as gambling and sex instead of trying to alleviate the pain and hunger in the world. I think that's what makes you most Christlike, not judgement! Instead of yelling hellfire and brimstone from the street corner, maybe you should volunteer at the local soup kitchen and get over yourself.

Oy, also to clarify I'm not gay, my roommate is and he and I get along great. I just pointed that out to say I don't have a problem with homosexuality, as a lot of Christians do.

I'm here. I think we get washed out by the Fundamentalist on here. Do you think the Fundamentalist are the modern Pharisees? I'm in Florida and a lot of the younger people in the Mega Churches are starting to step out and lighten up a bit.

I like to think of myself as a progressive Christian. I just try to be myself and live like any twenty-something guy, and a lot of times when people find out I'm a Christian they're surprised. There's definitely a stereotype that Christians are the type to live in a bubble, but there's also definitely a new generation of Christians like you and I.

we are born into sin i cant agree that we continue in it but certainly can say we do live daily sinning that means everyone not just pick and choose we all are sinners and come short of His glory it isnt my place or anyone elses to decide how you live your life// that is between you and God if you let Him He will direct your path people that preach hellfire and brimstone should take the beam from there own eye

Glad you posted this, there's something that confuses me about Christians who accept evolution

I'm curious about how you accept evolution and still believe the creation account

It seems to me if you accept evolution, that means you believe man evolved. If man evolved that means he wasn't created perfect, so no need for redemption from sin.

Or do you accept evolution but stop at the point of man evolving?

believing is is just the beginning to a Christian life, you have to live it according to God's Word, not yours. God's Will not yours..You can't play games with God because He don't play games with any of us..It is either Him or not He wants your full attention, your heart, your love..Take it as a warning cause you are walking on thin ice..I am not trying to put you down or any one else, I led the same life once and I know what I went through, it wasn't fun either. A thought to think on:
satan believed also guess where he is...

There are lots of liberal Christians.
That just makes you a product of two tribal mind-sets, and I am sure a lot more.
The extent to which you define yourself as part of a group is directly proportianal to the extent you diminish yourself as an individual.

Yo! I'm pretty similar. I do some bad things still but I'm strong with the Spirit, love God very much and try my best to love others. You shouldn't vote at all though!! ;-)

I'm a Christian and consider myself a liberal more so then conservative.

I don't believe god is going to condem you for being gay... I don't believe hes going to condem me for living with my girlfriend and I have many evolution beliefs too...

I don't have a God Fearing God in my life..

Why would I want to fear him...
