My children love listening to music and we only have a few CD's (including Raffi, which I like, but am getting fed up of.) They are 1 1/2 and nearly 3. Are the "They Might be Giants" CD's suitable for children this young. They don't really watch TV, so will not recognise anything from Disney etc.

Anne Murray put out an excellent kids CD a while back, but I am not sure if you can still buy it.

They Might Be Giants is really good and VERY educational. The songs are fun to listen to, I even like them. They play them on the XM KIDS radio station that I have at home.

You might try a Doodlebops CD also... even if they don't watch the show (which is music-themed), the songs are fun and they have little 'dances' that go to some of them that are fun for kids to do.

I was in charge of the daycare at the local Child & Parent Center during the parenting classes last year (as a volunteer thing) and the only thing they had to listen to was a Wee Sing Silly Songs cassette. I played that tape so many times I had about 1/2 of the songs memorized (I still have favorites from it). The songs are catchy enough that you'll find yourself singing them when the kids aren't even around. It's an excellent choice for children of any age. The Wee Sing Silly Songs tapes and CDs are hard to find in stores, but you can find them online if you're interested.

My Little brother, who is three now, loves listing to the Doddlebops(Disney CD) and Earth Wind and Fire. He also got stuck on Hall and Oats(I don't even know where that came from)

But remember It doesn't have to be just plain kids music. Be creative because there are alot of pop, and r&b groups have some great music.

Go to noggin.com, you can watch some music videos of artists they have on Jacks Big Music Show. Laurie Berkner is one of our favorites. Here are some others:

jack johnsons - curious george cd
anything 50's - beatles, beach boys (repetitive type songs)
Elizabeth Mitchell - real soft, pretty stuff (lisa loeb has a cd with her)

Justin Roberts - is touring libraries and stuff this summer
dan zanes - think its dan, but know the last name is zane

the wiggles (not as bad as you might think)

The Sippy Cupz
Milkshake
Wee Hairie Beasties

hmmm, maybe i can help.

i don't like Disney wither. it's all computer animated and it's not that fun. and they don't use a lot of real people in their shows, just cartoon characters. i would suggest signing time Cd's and videos. they are educational, and they teach ASL. it doesn't have cartoons, except for all the dvd's past family, feelings and fun. they are worth the money! my 2 yr old bro loves em and knows more then 90 signs. it comes naturally to children. and, it has small children signing, demenstrating the signs. how about that? they are for the age group you have too.

My daughter grew up with "Countdown Kids" CD's, it's kids singing kids songs - she loves them and it taught her all the fun kids songs, so when she got into Pre-School, she was able to sing along with them right away. She's 5 now - and though "Countdown Kids" isn't an adult venue - I did enjoy singing along with her each day we drove together.

She listens to my music as well, but children need to be children.

Here's a list of free MP3's by them - so you can decide if you want to buy it or not....

I went to Wal-Mart and bought a childrens CD "123 favorite kids songs". It was only $8.00 and has over three hours of the all time favorites, wheels on the bus, BINGO, Old MacDonald, etc...

while my daughter has always loved country, because of her dad. just recently she has gotten hooked on those music cd's in the baby section at walmart. you know its up on the wall, you push a certain button and play a selection from different cd's. well she found one that she loved, and has to dance to it everytime we go, then she was singing it in the car. so we had to buy it. its got all the fun kids songs, like com'n around the mountain, and baby bumblebee...songs like that.

Veggie Tales cd's, available at Walmart as well as other stores, have a variety of kid's songs that my daughter loves. Some of them are mildly religous - with the mention of 'God', but not overtly. They also have some that don't have any religous songs on them, if that is a concern for you.

We never played "made for kids" music for our children.

They gravitated to Wiggles, but rejected Barney, so they OBVIOUSLY have some musical acumen.

My 7 year old likes Rod Stewart. Her sister likes R&B.
