I live in Virginia. Where abouts are you looking? North or south? Near DC or near Tennesee?
Google is always a great tool.

The best way to practice Buddhism ,according to my experience is, practice it in ur daily life!
U dun have to be a weirdo that sit whole day meditating. Lessons can be found everywhere if u r mindful. Keep ur mindfulness the best way you can. Be aware of your emotion, when u are happy,be aware. When u are angry,or hating something,be aware and suppress it with love. Initially is hard, but eventually you will find it quite hard to even get angry.
The thing is:
avoid evil,
do good
and purify ur mind, this is already practicing buddhism as this is the Teaching of the Buddha.
Services are secondary, if u are a pure person u will not be less pure just bcuz u did not attend service.

While it might be good for you to have a sangha(community) and a roshi(priest) to instruct you in more formal practice, these are not necessary.
Practicing buddhism is as easy as being fully present in whatever you are doing right now. When you eat, be fully eating. When your mind wanders from your food, return it to the present moment and the experience of eating. Keep your focus on whatever you're doing in the present moment.
Also, consider these words from the Meiji Emperor and commonly used by Reiki practitioners:
"Just for today, Do not worry.
Do not anger.
Work diligently.
Act with compassion towards others."
The best thing you can do right now is to find a teacher and learn meditation. Meditation clears the mind and focuses it. If a teacher is not available, there are many good books that will get you started.
Namaste.

There are quite a few meditation centers up that way. Check www.buddhanet.net for various ones in the state of your preference. Practice depends on what interests you and what you can understand, the bottom line is wisdom, altruism and compassion. You can get a baseline idea of what Buddhism is about at buddhanet.net too.

According to Buddha? The best way is found within yourself. There is NO best way, but what feels best to you.
Look online for Buddhist organizations in your area. I'm 100% sure there's a temple around that would be happy to tell you what they know. Also, look into Unitarian Universalist churches. They often run meetings and seminars for Buddhists.

visit a zen temple and do their morning meditations with them. They usually accept visitors like that on sundays.
