You will need to go to an authorized Jeep (Chrysler) dealership to have another key cut and programmed. The reason for the Sentry system is security. If they allowed anyone to show up with a VIN (easily readable thru the windshield) they would be simply giving someone a key with which to steal your car.

However, if you want to avoid the approximate $80 cost for the replacement key, there is a trick you can use. Your Sentry key does NOT need to be in the ignition switch in order to activate the Sentry system bypass. You CAN get another key cut (with no sentry programming), tape your good Sentry key under the dash somewhere near the steering column (where its chip will activate the Sentry system) and then use the other regular cut key to operate the car. Of course, this will make your Sentry system rather useless in preventing theft, but it works.

Note to pooey: They may have changed the systems now, but we've been driving our 2002 Grand Cherokee this way for over two years now.

acermill is wrong, you have to have the key programmed in order for it to work his way. Why? Because if the computer recognizes that the pin is wrong it will shut down the car, normally right after the brake is applied or withing 10 seconds, whichever comes first. also, if you try this over 3 times you will then be locked out for a few hours, not even your programmed key will work. best bet, go buy the key at the dealer and get it programmed. it is about 50 for the key, that is suggested retail, but depending on the dealer could be more because of programming, that is where they get you. and the only way to program a key is with the drbIII, unless you have 2 functional keys and then the third is cut and unprogrammed, then you can program the third by yourself.

O.ok. it cranks. If the motor is popping like widespread yet no longer firing then you extremely've a spark or a gas subject. whether it extremely is popping over slower than widespread attempt a bounce initiate and then in case you have the unique battery, get a clean one. in the experience that your battery is new rigidity around for a minimum of a a million/2 hour or so, if the issue persists then you extremely could refer to who ever you acquire the battery from and function it checked for containing a cost. in the experience that your gas tank is empty it may be vapor lock from the chilly. attempt including a can of dry gas (get it at an vehicle areas save, its low priced) different themes will prefer a mechanic in view that your question presupposes which you're no longer extremely mechanical. good information is that any of the achieveable problems could be pretty low priced i.e., no greater desirable than $one hundred.00 at any good save. good success

take your key, registration card and a photo I. D. to the dealer, they will cut you a new key. I had to have a key made for my Wrangler, it was $30.00 The dealer related it would be about 40 more for a key needing a pin code. A certified lock smith could also possibly make you a key,
