I did a test on the internet once about how old I would be, and if I cheated a little, I could live to be 237 years old. Ok, I cheated a lot, but still.

So, I can understand that Noah lived 900 years.

But how does immortal work? Adam was born, and was supposed to live forever. How does such a thing work if, for example, somebody would chop his head off? Or pull his heart out? Or hit by an earthquake, or had walked in Pompeii during the volcano eruption? Or, or, oh well, you get the idea of my question.

I just thought that I would throw you out some Bible mixed with some Science. WOW. They do go together. The Bible says that the earth was covered with a mist, possibly like fog. It does not speak of rain until the time of Noah. He was the last long living man in the Bible. So think of it this way and see if it makes any sense to you. If the sun could not dry up the mist (clouds), maybe the Earth was covered in clouds which prevented direct sunlight to age the skin and radiate the body, then we might live a lot longer. In order for it to rain forty days and forty nights, all over the world, to flood everything, it would take an enormous amount of clouds, get the point yet? After all that rain, most of the clouds dissipated and man then became vulnerable to the sun which ages the skin and radiates the body. Make any sense, it's just the way I've always looked at it and I'm a Christian that believes that Christianity, Science and Common Sense all go together because they support each other.

When God created Adam, it was with the intention that he would live forever but when he committed the first sin, the price for his disobedience was death.

Taking into consideration that in the olden times, there were no motor vehicles so the people did a lot of exercises by walking and trekking over vast mountains that took them days to reach their destinations. If there were camels or horses, only a handful could have owned such animals. Then, they were mostly vegetarians. If they had meat, it was mostly from goats or sheep so less fats which meant less cholesterol. There were plenty of fruits that were rich in vitamin C and milk from goats so they did not suffer from calcium deficiency. There were no cigars or cigarettes at that time so no fear of contracting cancer. There was no pollution, the air was clear so no harmful toxins in their bodies. Well, I could go on with my list but the point is, they have more chances of a longer, better life than we do now so it comes as no surprise that most of them lived up to 900 years or so. However, they could never live forever, no immortality thing with them despite of the clean and healthy environment they were living in because all of us must die, as repayment for our sins.

Adam could have lived forever with the presence of the Lord. I think it has to be doing something with the thing that God sent Adam and Eve out " from the presence of the Lord" ( Gen3:8- ).

Biologically, there is no reason humans could not live hundreds of years. Scientists are more baffled by aging and death than by longevity.

The Bible is not alone in speaking of hundreds of years life spans among ancients. There are also records from ancient Greek and Egyptian times that speak of humans living hundreds of years.

God is not having limitations like we have. It is hard for us to comprehend with something that is made to last forever. Forever is such a long time.

God would protect one so that the head is not going to be chopped out, or heart is not going to be pulled out, earthquakes do not kill, or one can walk in the volcano.

God can make everything new. : )

Adam was designed to live forever. There was no disease, etc on the earth and even after he made his choice it took 900 years for him to die.

His son Abel was the first person murdered.

If Adam and man, had not made the choice to sin, no one would have had the power to take another's life. He would have lived forever on the earth and probably figured out how to live on other planets, etc. It would have been awesome.

Good question. I wonder if immortal=inability to feel pain. Seems highly unlikely. Also seems highly miserable. Who would want to live after having their head chopped off or heart pulled out? Yuck.

You have entirely too much time on your hands.
LOL
Does anyone know if years were measured the same as they are now? I mean I hear that 1000 of our years are a minute to God....
There is always a clause in every contract. Even immortality
Always check the fine print

You're like voters who get their political education from late night TV comics and consider them self informed. If you knew as much as you "think" you know about the subject, you would know that all bets were off when sin entered into the picture regarding Adam and Eve.

You wanna live long is it? simple. Tell GoD! No need to ask Him. It is your blood brought right to have long life. It is written : with long live i will satisfy him and show him my salvation.

You cheated? Look at abraham, he was a pretty good liar & he lived well over to 120 years old!! And so was Joseph!!

Immortality in christianity is : as you have believed, so it would be done for u. Its like : how much faith do u have to live long? how much faith you have that God is able to protect u from all hurt?...

but of coz..dun test God, dude..not like up on a 40th floor...u said "god will protect me & will deliver me" & u jump down to test his "power!"...u noe what i mean...

think think....selah.

Well, Adam was condemned to death by God; so, he died. End of story for him.

However, Jesus was called the Last Adam, he would have live eternally if he hadn't been killed.

But he was killed! Thus eternal life entails a modified definition of mortality, where mortality is defined as may die if subjected to deadly force. As is no food, no water period. Or as in Christ's case. You get the picture.

Because Jesus died faultless, God resurrected him; however, because Christ had sacrificed his human self for us as ransom, he was resurrected in a spirit body.

See ransom if more info is wanted, also Jesus' resurrection:
