I observed that a lot of people like to generalize whenever they say things. Why is it so common?

Sometimes it's logical to do so but sometimes it's simpler to do that for simple-minded people. Of course there's always the mean ones or the jokers. I generalize the French but not because I believe what I say- because I don't like the place and want to be mean/funny.

because the general population does all the same type things, they watch the same shows, go to the same places, associate with the same type of people, so its only natural that they assume everyone is the same and generalize in that respect.

Very good question. I have seen it myself. I used to do it too, but I have learnt to change.

It is probably easier to generalize I guess. I think it takes a more mature mind to look at things individually.

Because it's the easy way out to make it sound like everyone is "that way", instead of facing the reality of just making bad decisions about the people they spend time with.

Usually because they lack the information to be more specific. This is very true in most political discussions.
