A seed is a user that has already downloaded the file but continues to upload to others. A leecher is a user that is downloading a file.
Seeders tend to upload more than download, and leechers tend to download more than they upload. Seeders are what makes bittorrent work, because they facilitate the sharing of files across the network. Leechers tend to stop a torrent as soon as they have downloaded all the files they need, they don't stick around uploading the files for others.

Hi,
As you know torrents are a way to share files peer to peer. You need a torrent file and a torrent client. To find torrent files I go to www.torrentspy.com but there are many other places. I use bit torrent or ktorrent as my clients. Get bit torrent at www.bittorrent.com. Now for your question. Seeders are peers that have parts of the file you want and are sharing it currently. You want to find torrents that have lots of seeders as it allows you to download faster. Leeches are people who are using a torrent client to download the file but have turned off the sharing so they aren't helping the community to disseminate the file. If there are only leeches, you won't be able to download that file.
Three cautions: Torrents are slow, it may take you days (took me 3 days to download the new Mandriva DVD), it is possible to get virus infected files so use an antivirus (though I've never gottne infected) and there are copyrighted material available that is illegal to download. Have fun.

seed is the system hosting the file or peers who are downloading(leeching) the taget file and have seeding turned on. The more people that are dowloading the same file the faster the download given some clients have seeding turned on. However excessive seeding slows down your computer and download.

A seed is a person who has the entire file(s) already downloaded on their PC and they are just making it available for others to copy from them.
A leech is a person who is in the process of download the file(s) - such as yourself. They only have part of the file(s) available, and are continuing to donwload themselves as they make the parts they already have available as uploads to others.
