I believe that God works through our subconscious.
Somethings you just "know" He has called you to do. It's hard to explain. One thing for sure, He will NEVER call you to do something contrary to His word!

That's the real trick - telling the difference between your inner voice and what God's trying to say to you. God may not always speak directly - the message may be indirect and subtle. The lyrics of a certain song being played at the perfect moment, a certain smell, or kindness from a stranger, maybe. Remember, God does answer us, but the answer may not be what we hoped for. God's answers generally come in three varieties: 1) Yes. 2) Not now. 3) I've got something better in mind for you.

Very Good Question .....

Hard to answer as both are pretty much intertwined. Sometimes God uses your subconscious.

I find that when God speaks it tends to put a peace over me whilst my subconscious tends to do the opposite and is more like a warning system.

This is however the way I feel and I am sure things work differently for different people.

Yes I do hear from God, and have many times.

As far as telling the difference between the Holy Spirit and your own subconscious, you learn through experience! There is no other way.

You usually get a confirmation in real life if you've heard from God. It will prove itself to be true.

Generally, I just have a feeling of rightness if I am in God's will and listening to His voice. But, one time I heard an audible voice. I was laying in bed reading. Just me and my dog, and I heard an audible voice, my dog responded as if she did, too, that told me to go back to school and was even specific about which school. Well, I quit my job, rented out my condo, and went to school. You know, the bible says that obedience is better than sacrifice. I obeyed God's voice, I went to school, and God rewarded me with the family for which I have always hoped.
If you're wondering if you've heard the voice of God, put out a fleece. Pray about it earnestly, and then do what you feel God is leading you to do. And don't forget, the best way to hear God is through His word. Pray and read daily.

I’ve always relied on intuition and to me this is completely natural, probably consists of information the brain gathers that is harder to assign to a specific sense. Something feels wrong, but you can’t attribute the feeling to sight, sound, taste, smell or touch. I trust this to be information my brain has gathered and always pay attention.

When God communicates with me, there is never an audible voice, but there is an accompanying feeling of tenderness and I know it’s from God.

Perhaps intuition is telling me this is from outside my mind. But it is not at all the same as intuition.

Sometimes the accompanying feeling of love is so overpowering, I know that it could not be human.

This is not something that you can turn on and off at will. When I feel God’s Spirit it always comes as a surprise.

Once, at the end of a church service I was praying at the alter for the strength to deal with a specific situation. As I was walking back to my seat God’s Spirit told me Trust, not strength. This seemed to be accompanied by a flood of information telling me to stop praying for strength and to learn to trust God.

If anybody happened to be watching me in that moment I’m sure they wondered why I suddenly looked so surprised. But He always comes as a surprise.

I've never heard the booming voice of George Burns from on high but I've felt God communicating to me before. You conscience is the common way he tries to get through. The subconscious things are more of instinct and senses, base feelings and learned behavior.

Yes.

How do I differentiate? God gives me the Holy Spirit who provides discernment. I test what I hear against His word. The biggest test? If it's something that goes against what I FEEL like doing in my "fleshly nature", and it stands up to the word of God, it's GOD.

I don't know how else to explain it. The ways of the Lord cannot be fully understood by a non-believer.

Learning how to hear the voice of God doesnt happen over night. It comes from spending time in His presence and getting His word and truth into your heart and spirit.

God would never tell you to do anything that is contrary to His nature, everything He says is backed by His Word.

1 Corinthians 2 speaks on this....

verses 13-16 especially

13. Which things alo we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14. But the natural man recieves not the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolish to him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15. But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16. Foir who knows the mind of the Lord? That He may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.

1 Cor. 3:19
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, " He takes the wise in their own craftiness."

In order to tell the difference between God's voice and my subconscious only requires that I go to the Bible for confirmation. If the Lord is speaking to me, there will never be contradiction to His word. Often times, my own subconscious will not line up with Scripture.

The Holy Spirit I would argue becomes a part of ourselves and our subconscious. The dicotemy the Bible describes us having is between our sinful nature or flesh, and the Holy Spirit and its very EASY to differentiate between them.
