I don't trust Harman Kardon anymore after they merged with JBL and other companies. Go to Onkyo or Denon for the most bang for buck.

you are able to no longer truly go incorrect with Yamaha, although no longer the proper there stuff is often good, and that they have got been relatively between the 1st company to do homestead theater receivers/Amplifiers. frequent rule of thumb with loudspeakers Small audio gadget paintings proper in small rooms, super in massive rooms, could look obvious yet its significant. Acoustics attempt to no longer ought to many complicated surfaces EG Laminate flooring, you like some gentle furnishing to damp the sound, once you shout out loud on your room do you hear an Echo ? if so the room desires damping down. those little issues are as significant because of the fact the kit itself.

I agree with AM. go for the Onkyo 605 or 805 because of the HDMI v1.3. it definitely looks like future for HD content...maybe the future for quite some time.

I suggest to spend few bucks more and go for Onkyo TX-SR605 or TX-SR805 - depemding on your budget. The have HDMI 1.3 capability, and this is the future of HD connectivity - audio and video. I saw TX-SR605 for under $400 on the net.

I sure hope your buying a factory refurbished / warrantied model because those are all older receivers.
This place has great products for the price:

I have the Onkyo 504 in my bedroom 5.1 system, works great. Can't beat it for $160.

The reason I chose the HK 300 and up is that it has pre-amp outs - I don't use the power amps at all because all of my speakers are powered. I think they are easy to work with, and they have done well for me - I own 3 - and I would buy them again.
