She is a 10 month old Yorkie/Silky Mix and just recently she has been refusing to eat any breakfast and will only eat dinner at 8:00 at night. Is it the hot summer weather? Is she only eating when it gets cool out? Or is she just growing out of puppy hood and wating only one meal a day? Or maybe she is sick. This has been going on for two weeks and i am going on vacation in two weeks and i really need to know what is wrong with her before i leave.

I think the best thing is to call the vets. They are the best ones to know the situation, especially for a small breed. They will address the situation regarding the types of food the pup is eating (or not eating), and they can help you. I know it might cost a bit of money, but it will give you peace of mind, instead of second-guessing the causes. And if they find an illness of some sort (which I hope is not the case), then they can help the dog to get better. Good luck.

I live on a farm with many different kinds and breeds of animals.
This is one thing that is common among all of them is they don't have the same appetite in the summer as they do in the winter.
I especially notice this with my dogs a border collie and a pit bull mix. The border collie will be much larger in the cooler months while in the summer he hardly eats and gets real slim.
I feed them the same dog food all year they just don't eat the same in the summer. But if you are real concerned take it to the vet. She may have some other trouble.
My dogs love my wife's cookin', I just poured some of her vegetable beef stew broth over the dry food. They usually eat it like pigs. But now they are letting it set. It is the heat of the day about 2:15pm temp of 94 degrees. Don't make jokes about my wife's food. LOL she's a good cook.

If you're going on vacation now would be a good time to take her to the vet and make sure there is nothing wrong with her. Don't be one of the idiots who wait until the day before they leave to decide that NOW it's an emergency. Hopefully there is nothing wrong with her, but making sure would be the smart thing to do. Good luck and have fun on the vacation.

For puppies of large and giant sized, you should not give regular puppy food as it is too high in fat, protein and calcium and will increase the growth rate, making the bones grow too fast and they become less dense, more porous, weaker and more vulnerable to degenerative conditions. Some puppy foods made specifically for giant breeds contain less fat, protein and calcium making them ok for your giant breed puppy, but other large breed puppy food actually contain more fat, protein and calcium then regular puppy food, making them a bad choice to feed your Mastiff pup. So for your mastiff either carefully chose a large breed puppy food that is lower in fat, protein and calcium, than regular puppy food and feed him that until he is a year. Or just switch him now onto a regular adult maintenance dog food. Do this slowly, to prevent diarrhoea, starting with 1/4 cup new food to 3/4 cups old food for 2-3 days, then 1/2 and 1/2 for another 2-3 days and 3/4 cup new to 1/4 old 2-3 days then finally all new food.

If you are going on vacation soon, take her with you. Our (previous) dog did not like the kennel apparently. Second, eating grass, is something dogs tend to do when something does not feel well for them. As for eating at 8:00, leave the food available to her, and let her decide when to eat. Also, make sure water is readily available to her to drink at all times during the summer. (I can remember us traveling and going thru the drive thru to get water for the dog that was with us at that time).

She might not be hungry because of the hot weather. Watch her to see if she feels OK. Make sure she gets enough water in the hot weather too. See if she loses any weight, if so, take her to the vet.

If she eats once a day that is fine. My chihuahua will only eat when he is hungry and sometimes not even once a day. Make sure your puppy has plenty of water. I add a little ice during the day to offer a more refreshing water.

Many people put out way toooooo much food. And the heat does make a dog slow to eat.
