I'm trying to setup a new business. I have been up and running for about 3 weeks now.

I am providing a floor plan service to estate agents. Basically I draw a digital scaled floor plan layout of a property for them to upload to their website as an advertising tool. After doing a bit of research it seems that about 10% of estate agents have floor plans of their properties on their website.

The main point about my business is that it has been completely free to setup... so far.

I have a free website - www.cad-complete.co.uk , free email hosting - info@cad-complete.co.uk , I have all the needed software and hardware donated by a friend. I have all the required experience gained over the years as a CAD technician. I have listed my website on several free business listings. BUT I HAVE NO CUSTOMERS! :(

So the question is really this - how do I get estate agents to firstly know about my service and secondly want to use it!? I have emailed many UK estate agents without any replies yet.

Well if you are doing a housecleaning business, i don't see the point in starting an internet advertising campaign... are you gonna travel half way across the world to clean someone's house? I suggest print off some flyers yourself (you could get started right now) and place them in strategic places such as shopping mall bill/notice boards, letterboxing, etc. (get permission), and place an advertisment in a few of your local papers - in the classifieds - cost would be very low, about 30c per word. that should be enough to get you on your way. as your business expands and your customer base grows, word of mouth will help you to make it bigger, depending on whether or not your previous clients were satisfied with your service.

I love looking at floor plans and looked at ads with pictures or floor plans before any other ads when I was in the market - So good luck to you!

You can always pound the sidewalk and go visit target agents personally. It may sound pushy but somebody's bound to give you a shot if you're good! Show them examples of what you've got to offer and maybe some solid statistics from your experience of how your services will assist their sales.

Your best bet might be to lookup and attend agent 'meet and greets'. Most industries have networking events where people can get to know each other, this would be a good way to get to know some people who would be interested in your service.

There is no faster way to gaining business than by starting out shaking someone's hand.

I think that you need good old fashioned sales. Type up an information sheet, and then go visit every estate agent in your town.

Google all your local estate agents and get their email addresses from their websites.

Email them and ask who the manager is there. Then email him or her all your information with link to website etc.
