Actually, Eve introduced patriarchy.
In the apocrypha, Lilith was the first wife of Adam. They split up because Adam always wanted to be on top while Lilith wanted to try more equal positions. So Adam whined to God and Lilith got kicked out of paradise and left to fend for herself in a world full of demons.
Then God made Eve, a submissive and naive woman that would be content being a bottom, to be Adam's 'trophy wife' so to speak. Being stupid, Eve ate the apple and what not. Lilith, we're told, had a bunch of kids with demons and became the first bitchy ex-wife.
From a modern perspective, however, it looks like the outspoken women got beat down and humiliated by men, and the dumb pretty girl ended up being more trouble than it was worthy...
...Just like real life, after all.
(To be fair, Lilith is the older myth here, mostly from Mesopotamia. This is another case of a new religion rewriting the older one to suit its purposes. When the Talmub was written, goddesses were pretty popular, which probably didn't suit the men of a patriarchy-based religion. What better way to get rid of the goddesses by putting down women? Anyway, tehre's plenty of info in Wikipedia.)

Yep, zenith_valar has the correct answer....
Lilith had (supposedly) refused to submit to Adam and has been punished by later being portraied as a demon (forgot who she had coupled with) and has allegedly cursed all of Eve's descendants.....
Been a while since I've read on it....
It's near to beginning of the Bible, and Adam has had 2 wives :)
Might look it up and give some of specific info later... if I don't fall asleep LOL
Ok: (can't believe I'm posting this LOL) -
KJV Genesis Chapter 1:27
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Genesis 2:7
7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Genesis 2:21
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
I know this is a a but you could look it up in KJV
Therefore Adam did have 2 wives, sorry to dissapoint you guys.
Hey, no hate mail over this, pls. Check it up for yourself.

If you read your bible really carefully, Adam as standing right next to Eve as the snake spoke to eve, because Eve then gave the fruit to adam, who was with her...read it, were would adam be anyways, someplace in the garden??? Nah, he was lonely, so he was just not being a man and properly instructing Eve.

No. The bible story is supposed to explain why women should be inferior.
Look at how the bible treats women in general:

The bible is one of the greatest obstacles for equality.
