Im 16 and am English. I want to go to the u.s to study history and law, but i want to stay after my studys are over and hopefully become a permanent resident, and eventually a citizen. Does anyone know what kind of visa i need and how to go about staying?

i think you can apply for a student visa and then once you get that you can start applying for citizenship... i think that would probably be the easiest way to go about it

I would recommend you contacting immigration and starting the process of filing for immigration. Dont just get a student visa, see that is one of the biggest problems that this country has, to many people come here with student visa and then just stay....This is one of the reasons we have 20 million ILLEGAL immigrants. I have 2 friends who came from Italy on Visa's to attend High school, they ended up staying 4 more years and they were eventually caught and sent back to Italy...so my point is..Make sure you explain your intentions and have Imiigration deside the best route for you. Hope this helps and Good Luck!

I looked at this last year, albeit I am considerably older than you. I had to have a secure job offer out there, went to the American Embassy for an interview for a five year visa (which cost an arm and a leg!) and I was more or less set to go.

I have a couple of young friends who have moved over there - they actually worked for Camp America at around the same age as you and carried on their education out there. Maybe doing something like that is an option for you?

Good luck - I really really wish I had gone through with it.

You can apply for a student visa at an American Embassy. Then once you are here apply for a work visa, and a citizenship. All in all can take like 14 years

The best way to stay around is to find a company that will sponser you, or give you a work visa, especially with all this mess going on right now. Many of the larger companies do that here . . .
