I would say so. I don't see the point of brushing immediately after waking up if I'm just going to dirty my teeth some more a few minutes later. Also, food doesn't taste so good with toothpaste.
I found this:
Brush at least twice a day — many oral-health-care professionals recommend brushing just before going to bed. When you sleep, saliva decreases, leaving the teeth more vulnerable to bacterial acids. Teeth should also be brushed in the morning, either before or after breakfast, depending on your schedule. After breakfast is ideal so food particles are removed. But if you eat in your car, at work or skip breakfast entirely, make sure you brush in the morning to get rid of the plaque that built up overnight.
The theories about eating the bacteria don't seem to be true.

As a dentist I have heard this question several times. You want to brush AFTER you eat breakfast, the entire point of brushing after every meal is to rid the teeth of food debris that can get stuck in and between your teeth that can cause breakdown of the enamel of the tooth and start decaying into the actual tooth (cavity). Best rule of thumb is to brush after every meal or at least twice per day for the recommended two minutes and always remember to floss as this will rid the teeth from plaque buildup and food between the teeth. Hope this helps.

Every Dentist in this world will tell you to brush after every meal. However if you can't stand your morning breath you can also brush before (and after breakfast). And brushing should definitely be the last thing before you go to sleep! And stay away from Mountain Dew, Gatorade and anything that's too sweet or sour!

It is more logical to brush after eating breakfast. However, I brush when I first wake up and then immediately after every meal.

If you brushed your teeth before going to the night before, then the sugar build-ups and things of this sort aren't present to allow bacteria to work with the sugars and do damage. from a dental stand-point, after breakfast is better if you brushed the previous night. If you brush after breakfast than you can get out all of the build-ups of sugars and stuff that can do damage.

Yes, brush after breakfast so you don't have food debris that is left lingering. If you do you increase the likelihood for cavities and bad breath. If you can't brush after breakfast you can always rinse with water. Smart thinking!

Brush after breakfast. This way you get rid of the overnight germs AND any food particles that may get stuck in your teeth that can cause decay.

Brushing first thing in the morning is a must; unless you want your teeth go breakable. During your sleep, gastric acids regurgitate from your stomach up to your esophagus then to your mouth. In short, your teeth drench in acid every morning. Acid in nature weakens tooth enamel, so if you don’t want to have your teeth look like a teeth of a saw then brush your teeth first thing in the morning.
