How would you suggest I learn it? Thus far, I've considered checking something out of the library. Any other suggestions?

I wanted to learn it and have been teaching myself from a book I purchased. However, a class would be a much quicker way to get it down pat.

I don't think it is very useful these days with laptops and such, shorthand is pretty much obsolete. However, it never hurts to know something others do not.

I am mainly learning it because of the "neatness" factor. hehe.

You sound like a person who strives to be educated whenever something interests them, this will ALWAYS work in your favor!

Kudos to you!

Fast Longhand. It depends on your job. Does your boss rattle off things for you to do as he or she is walking out of the office? Is it worth it? That's between you and your boss.

It also depends on how many years you plan to work with him. If you don't intend to work with him very long, don't worry about.

Not many jobs require shorthand, however, there is often an older person that wants his assistant to take dictation.
Those jobs often pay more than those without shorthand.

If so, shorthand my benefit you. Ask your boss to use dictating equiment, it will be easier for you. Go to the library and checkout some books are buy a new one.

I will tell you this, it is something you will never 4get how 2 use. I use shorthand 2 take notes. If it is something you really want 2 learn than go 4 it. I am glad I did.

unless you're someone's personal secretary, taking notes at a meeting or something, there isn't really much need for it now. it's much faster to type than to use shorthand. my mom is a legal secretary and knows shorthand and says she rarely uses it, if ever

Used less now because of dictaphones. Great skill to have, even for passing secret messages to your friends who know it also.
