Brief explanation..... It's a neighbor of ours. Their daughter graduated high school. Our son and their son as well as their daughter have hung out for 5+ years. We do talk to the parents. On a rare occasion we'll have a drink together at their house or ours. We aren't close, just neighborly. We have been invited to their daughters high school graduation party. We can't make it, but would like to drop off a card and gift. Do I just put cash in the card? What is the appropriate amount? Do I buy her something? Get a gift card for Target or something like that?

Graduates do appreciate cash. I would think $20-25 is appropriate. You are not expected to give the same amount as relatives. If you'd like to give a gift, a portable USB Flash drive is a different kind of gift that would serve them well in college and you could find a nice one in the same price range.

Cash is always good for a graduate, and you should give an amount that is appropriate for your income level, between 50 and 150.
If she is going to school away from home next year and will be taking a car you can also get her gas gift cards.

a gift card or cash is appropriate. Give as much as you can. since it is graduation, more than just 20 dollars. Or you can buy a generic gift, like a candle or body set. You can also get her something which would come in handy for her in college, like a gift card to a book store, a cool lamp, curtains, etc.

An American Express or Visa Gift card for $25 would be appropriate. Or, you can give cash. That way she can buy whatever she wants or needs.

All kids want cash, $25 should be enough since you are not that close. If you feel better about a gift card then that would be cool too.

Money is definitely the best bet unless you know her well enough to know where she shops, then a gift card is acceptable. $25 - $50 is a good amount for a neighbor to whom you are not that close.

I would get a $25 or $50 american express gift card. That would be appropriate. This way they can get whatever they want and not tied to one store.

I think cash is the best. Get a cute money card and put in whatever is within your budget. I would say $50 is good.

I think that A card with some money would be fine. If i were graduting i woiuld want money because if you buy your neighbor something and they dont like it well then you will feel bad, and with money they can do anything with it.

Get her a good dictionary! It will serve her well for years.

By the way, people don't "graduate high school," but "graduate from high school."
