Yes I spent 12 weeks doing an alpha course and prayed and left the door open to Jesus.
I started the course open minded. I would have liked to find Jesus if he was real.
At the end of 12 weeks I no longer even believed that Jesus was a historical figure. I had thought he probably was before that.
The reason was that I saw faith in action, and it typified itself to me as delusional.
I will maybe try again, but the more I learn the more I understand religion, and the more I see why God is invented to sustain it.

I tried for 16 and a half years, I was a devout catholic, went to church studied the bible all that good stuff. God never showed himself to me. I even gave "god" another chance when I as 18 and one of my good friends died in an accident. Nothing happened. I prayed and asked for something to let me know he was ok and somewhere good. Nothing happened. There is no god, its all a delusion that started thousands of years ago because some tribe couldn't explain why the rain fell. And it grew in to the monster that is religion today. You can't help, actually you can, STOP TRYING TO CHANGE MY MIND. It isn't going to work and what's going to happen is I'm going to end up changing your mind.

Good morning Gilbert, Yes, I have appealed to the Judeo-christian "god" many times to please reveal himself in a multitude of ways rangeing from spectacular to teeny-tiny requests, just to show me he is real so I can fall in line with all the others who believe and give him the praise and worship they all say he wants. Nothing was ever revealed or proven in the smallest or most selfless of requests, to give me any reason to believe. No, I am not talking to invisible people who aren't talking to me anymore. But, there is an open ended invitation still for him to show himself if such diety exists. If I'm sent to hell because he's a no-show, I'll count myself better off in the company of friends who feel the same. No thanks, Gilbert, I don't need any help with this issue. I have never tried god much as I have never tried pickled pigs feet. Neither have any place in a rational persons diet.

Born an Atheist and I will die an Atheist, so far in between has been very rewarding and a lot of fun.

I spent many years trying. I even got to the point and surrendered and just left the door open. During those years, my sole, single prayer was that God would teach me to be nothing so he could be everything.

No answer.

What can you do to help? Don't ask loaded questions that assume the state of our quest for the truth. Most of us have been there and done that and got no response.

God revealed Himself to me...it is possible. But no concept of God nor religion has it totally correct - so I don't belong to any religion.

Most

Atheists

Were

Once

Christian

We don't want to know more about your god. We tend to be more educated on your religion than you are. Atheists have nothing stopping them from learning about religions in the world. Most of us HAVE read your bible cover to cover. Believe it or not, most Christians have no read your bible cover to cover. Most of us have also read the Torah and the Quran. Most of the us have even gone so far as to read the Mormon bible, and the JW bible.

Why don't you religious get it?

We think your religion is all crap. If you think that converting me back to your religion is "help" then I don't want your help. I think your religion is the worst thing to happen to this planet in 2000 years.

He has the same chance of revealing himself to me that the tooth fairy does. How do you give an imaginary being a chance to reveal itself anyway?

Like many atheists, it took me a long, long time to admit that I didn't believe in God. I went to church, prayed and fasted, but I just never got a sense that there was a God there.
