My son is driving me insane, I have attempted hundreds of times to let him drink out of a cup and he always always ends up spilling it on himself or all over the table or couch. I don't know what to do because he begs me to give him his milk in a cup and then next thing I know it's all over his stomach and on the table/couch EVRYWHERE! I'm not just tlaking about a few drops, it's like most of the cup and even though I only put 1-2 oz of it in there it still makes a mess. WTF! When the is he gonna learn to not spill, he's 3.5 already, is this normal???

He normally drinks out of a straw cup, never got him the sippy cup.

But as I said he begs me for a regular cup to drink out of and I always figure he could use the practice.

Yep! Tippy cup will work!

He begs for an "older person" cup so that he can look like he is "grown up" in his own eyes. Granted, he has NO idea how to use it, so he MAY look like a future democratic or republican presidential candidate, depending on your political leanings. *grin*

In short, your 3.5 year old son can't drink out of a normal cup because he IS 3.5 years old, dear. *grin* Don't be so impatient! He will mature at his own rate.

try this. my son is 4 and has the same problem. hold the cup with him. sounds like you need to use sippy cups for awhile longer. hes not ready for a cup without a lid. just tell him hes not ready

I agree with jennanderton2006, just hold the cup with him until he gets it right. If he cries, just be firm and tell him he can't do by himself and that you need to hold it with him.

Ever see the movie Airplane? I have visions of your son being in his thirties suffering from a drinking problem (and if you haven't seen the movie, the main character with the drinking problem throws the drink into his face whenever he tries to take a sip).

this is normal do not let it get to you. unil he is about five and ready for kindergarden there is no big deal witha sippy. until then just let your son guide you into knowing when he wants a regular cup and ot a sippy and try try again every couple weeks until he takes it.

i dont know maybe try sitting with him while hes drinking so you can kinda coach him on it, if hes used to a sippie its gonna take time to get used to a regular cup, good luck!
