I watched a show on National Geo. last night, that said that when the Govt. restricted the sale of cold remedies to the public, the meth trade never slowed down due to the import of the drug from "mega labs" in Mexico that can mass produce a more pure product at a cheaper cost. They said that they use the established drug cartel routes to import it into the country. Thus, my question!

America's hunger for meth is the major contributor to the distribution of meth from Mexico in the country. Getting rid of every last illegal will not change that. the only thing it will change is the suppliers. The black market is the most lucrative market on the planet.

I am sure that illegals play a role in bringing meth into our country, because they play a role in bringing other drugs into the US, especially marijuana. They carry the marijuana in backpacks, and if they are caught the marijuana is confiscated and the illegal is let go! What a way to win the war on drugs!

The problem is that Americans consume more illegal drugs than all the other countries combined. what is wrong with our society that millions of people feel they need a drug induced high? We can not legalize meth because it has a tremendously negative effect on one's health.

I'd be interested to know where you got the correlation. In my Peace Corps experience in Central America I met a number of drug smugglers (I lived on the route and the trucks went by my house every night). They were not illegal immigrants, but part of a well greased plan that has been working for a very long time. The best way to fight this is to legalize drugs.

I think the porous border plays larger a part in the ease with which traffickers bring the drug into the United States, but I think that most illegal border crossers are coming for the work, money and other benefits they get once they're here.

There may be some correlation, in that people smuggling (coyotes) and drug smuggling are both big illegal industries. I don't find evidence that the individual illegal immigrant greatly increases the profits of an illegal drug trade, though.

Absolutely. There's a regular run between this area and Mexico for everything from drugs, people, stolen cars.....you name it...it's here. Not to mention contracts out for "competition" in their given field of illegal business. There's an entire sub-economy going on. From reliable sources it's no surprise many work but also rely very heavily on their illegal endeavors because they can't live on paupers wages anymore than we can. They show their "wages" as their legit job to get the free social services and then rake in major bucks off the other "business". Whether it be drugs, prostitution, child prostitution, dog fights....whatever. I think that's why we are so appalled at what people are willing to do for a buck. Like the guys in India killing a 9 yr old to sell his organs. That's why 1st world countries thrive and 3rd worlds don't. If people can't survive by legal means.....they do on illegal means. Too many by illegal means and it's jungle rules and people aren't willing to go back to that after they've lived in a society than didn't have to. This must seem like a literal gold mine for some successful 3rd world illegal person. We probably do seem like mindless idiots to keep ourselves so vunerable in so many different ways. Personally......I don't relish the idea of thinking every person I meet is just talking to me in order to find out my weakness and how to exploit me. Every repair man scoping out my home for a future hit. It's not great now and I'm afraid it will get worse.

Being one that has severe allergies limiting the sudafed has only made my life more miserable. Hasn't done squat to slow down the illegal business. I've been told in some states even baby formula (dry) is behind lock and key because it's used to cut drugs with. I mean it's beyond crazy to keep punishing law abiding people because it's too tough to go after the criminals. It seems all the efforts to stop drugs here has only made the Mexican drug dealers more secure in their business.

In their glee of "globalization" and all the wealth a few can get......they seem to have forgotten you can't "control" the world in what they do to earn a living as well. They were so thrilled to burn the poppy fields in Afghanistan thinking they had really made a huge crimp in the drug trade.....only to have them thriving again....growing poppies....because that's where the money is. They are going to fight just like we are when our survival is at stake. Just another law and just another inconvenience is only going to drive things more underground.

You know it doesn't come FROM Mexico, it comes THROUGH Mexico. 90% of the drugs being consumed in the US come from Colombia.

If that was the case I am sure that this immigration issue would have rolled out the red carpet to Amnesty(as most consider it to be).
